Under the overall guidance of the Chief, Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) and the direct supervision of the Team Leader of the Information Systems and Development Unit, the incumbent will contribute to the improvement and maintenance of ITC’s Market Analysis tools in particular the development of the Global Trade Helpdesk (GTH).
The Trade and Market Intelligence section (TMI) has developed and is continuously evolving a set of portals that provide data on trade flows, customs duties and market access in a user-friendly and highly flexible way to thousands of users in the developing world. TMI recently launched a new portal, the Global Trade Helpdesk (GTH), which aims at integrating the various ITC information together with data from international, regional and national partners.
The position is located in the Information Systems and Development Unit, which has responsibility for the development of new information applications and systems for the ITC and seeks to provide proactive services to client departments of the ITC in meeting their IT development needs. This Unit is one of two reporting to the Chief of the Information Technology and Systems, the other Unit being responsible for IT Operations.
RESPONSIBILITIE:
Under the overall guidance of the Chief, Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) and the direct supervision of the Team Leader of the Information Systems and Development Unit, the incumbent will:
- Assist in the analysis, design, development and implementation of information technology projects in particular the Global Trade Helpdesk in close collaboration with clients and other information systems officers, assisting either on designing application systems or in the management of outsourced projects by contractors to deliver application systems and software to meet organizational and client requirements.
- Assist providing ongoing support and maintenance of relevant IT applications, systems and projects.
- Assist in supporting Web-based enabled systems, including participating in the review of technological developments in the use of the Internet meet user needs.
- Assist in identifying/documenting,user requirements and developing requirement specifications along with systems development plans and related technical specifications.
- Perform other duties as required
E LIGIBILITCRITERIA
E DUCATION: University degree in Computer Science or a closely related field. Industry recognized
certificate in project management is desirable.
Note: An advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) in Computer Science or a closely related field
may be accepted in lieu of relevant professional work experience.
W ORK EXPERIENCE : A minimum of two years of professional experience in IT development,
administration and support (including systems analysis, design and project management). Some
experience with PC development tools, applications and operating systems desirable.
L ANGUAGES : Advanced knowledge of English. Working knowledge of French or Spanish highly
desirable. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an asset.
R EQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND S KILL:
- Demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of programming and analysis including object-oriented design, relational database, scripting and query languages.
D ESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Good knowledge of business and IT analysis techniques and methods
- Good knowledge of User Experience and User Interface Designs

T ERMS OF SERVICE
Appointments with ITC are service-limited to this organization. The conditions of service are governed
by the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations. This is a fixed term appointment.
INDICATIVE ANNUAL SALARY AT THE P-1 LEVEL
Annual Salary (net of tax)
Starting from 36,347US$, with annual increments subject to performance.
Post Adjustment
In addition to the above annual salary a monthly post adjustment is paid. The rate as at March
2018 is 80.5% of the monthly salary. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since
variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate
fluctuations or inflation.
