Background

The Integrated Talent Management Unit is responsible for designing strategies, solutions, tools and services that enable and facilitate more effective and impactful people decisions, and help shape a workplace where individuals thrive and teams excel. The Unit includes several service lines e.g. competency management, job design and classification; talent sourcing, onboarding, and succession management; diversity, employee engagement, and staff well-being; performance management, learning and leadership development, and career management. It also includes a distinct service line for internal management consulting which enables strategic positioning, resources alignment and business process reengineering.

The mission of ITM is to enable effective management of UNDP talent through full integration of all aspects of talent management. Such an approach incorporates data from a variety of processes from recruitment, to performance management, learning, and development, and translates it into a coherent ‘employee life cycle' centered around one competency framework aligned with the UNDP Strategic Plan.

In this context the Talent Development Unit (TDU) is a centre of expertise that designs and delivers state of the art learning and development solutions to UNDP staff worldwide. Through the delivery of large scale leadership development programmes; tailored development programmes for key leadership roles; an extensive offering of high quality online courses on UNDP’s core business and professional certification programmes as well as customised development planning and career management tools, it enables and supports UNDP staff to build skills, grow and leverage the power of learning across all areas of work.

TDU’s role is to utilize continuous learning models to create development solutions that solve organizational problems, support organizational performance and engage staff. It is essential that UNDP staff continuously develop their knowledge, skills, experiences and strengths.

The Learning Intern’s primary function is to support the Leadership Development Pathway (LDP), which is a leadership development experience targeted to prepare and build the competencies of people managers in the organization. The LDP’s target audience is people managers throughout UNDP. UNDP provides leadership development opportunities to over 1800 leaders at various levels and locations around the globe.

Secondly, the Learning Intern will be working on supporting the design, preparation, implementation and evaluation of workshops and other learning activities organized by the Integrated Talent Management Team in the Office of Human Resources (OHR) during the course of the assignment.

The job requires creativity, enthusiasm in learning, and the ability to meet deadlines and maintain high-quality of output working under pressure. The ability to use good judgment and experience working in a multi-cultural setting are critical.

Duties and Responsibilities

The internship will be organized around these main activities:

Leadership Development Pathway:

  • Provide operational support to the Leadership Development Pathway in connection with preparation, enrollment, reporting, and evaluation of the programme;
  • Provide support in communicating effectively with programme participants throughout the learning process (emails, social platforms…);
  • Follow through on participant feedback, progress and integrates the feedback to future programmes, if applicable;
  • Assists in putting together and coordinating webinars and other learning activities and materials associated with the programme;
  • Assists in carrying out surveys, assessment and feedback analysis to monitor the impact of learning and evaluate overall programme effectiveness.

Additional Tasks and Opportunities:

  • Provide internal and external communication including the usage of social media;
  • Create and maintains websites for participants and speakers;
  • Create brochures and documents for participants;
  • Update learning content;
  • Participate in the design of case-based learning activities;
  • Support the delivery of leadership programmes e.g. webinars;
  • Compile and analyze evaluation data;
  • Provide logistic support;
  • Assists in the video shooting and production

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Student enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

  • Sound knowledge in computer skills (experience working with an new technologies and LMS is an asset, but not required).

Language:

  • Fluency in English;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset, especially French and Spanish

Conditions:

  • Any individual hired under these conditions are not staff and therefore, are not covered by UN Staff Regulations and Rules;
  • UNDP internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible.
