Background Information - Job-specific

Mali is facing a problem of weapons and explosive hazard contamination, as a result of protracted and recent armed conflicts. The presence of explosive remnants of war (ERW), improvised explosive devices (IED) and insecure stockpiles of weapons and ammunition (obsolete, abandoned or neglected), poses a serious threat to civilians as well as to United Nations and humanitarian personnel operating in the country.

UNMAS deployed to Mali in January 2013 to conduct an emergency assessment of the situation with regard to explosive threats. In July 2013, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was established under Security Council resolution 2100 and is currently operating under Security Council resolution 2354 (2017). In accordance with these mandates, the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) has engaged UNOPS PSC to implement a mine action programme in Mali to:

  • Improve the protection of civilians and facilitate humanitarian assistance;
  • Enhance national capacity to mitigate explosive threats and enable compliance with international treaty obligations;
  • Reduce the explosive threat to MINUSMA and United Nations personnel.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Assist and support Logistics team in receiving and inspecting cargos, storage arrangements;
  • Assist Logistics team in loading and off-loading truck and container;
  • Store / arrange in an orderly manner equipment, spare parts, return parts, and other items into the storage facility;
  • Pick-up equipment, spare parts, and other items from storage facility in accordance with the supervisor’s instruction;
  • Assist with office tasks (photocopying, scanning as directed);
  • Prepare equipment, spare parts, returned parts, and other items for shipment following established procedures for packaging, crating, boxing, bundling, wrapping, strapping, and labelling;
  • Ensure good record and filling of logistics documents;
  • Support in preparation of work orders;
  • Oversee MINUSMA workers such as carpenter, plumber, electrician, when they perform their work and report process and/or completion to supervisor;
  • Performs other relevant duties as required and assigned.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: 
  • Secondary School diploma with 3 years of relevant working experience is required.
Work Experience: 
  • Relevant years of experience is defined as experience in Logistics, Administration, Facilities Management or any other relevant field.

Language:

  • Fluency in spoken and written French is required. Knowledge of basic English is highly desirable.

Contract duration: 12 months with possibility of extension upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
