The incumbent of this post will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing strategic, dynamic, interactive and meaningful social media content strategies applicable to daily community management as well as campaigns and live coverage on social media. The post is expected to support the functions of organizational priorities, campaigns and supporter engagement.

The Digital Strategy Section within the Division of Communication comprises Web, Social Media and Multimedia teams working together to create compelling public-facing content and to provide digital services within the organization. Through multiple platforms and in multiple languages, the Digital Strategy Section draws attention to the many facets of UNICEF's work, encouraging public support, participation and action, as well as ensuring greater transparency and accountability. Web stories, blog posts, photo essays, Facebook posts, Twitter campaigns, and videos for distribution via UNICEF.org, UNICEF Connect, YouTube, news media and other outlets and platforms are all a part of our digital storytelling.

 

How can you make a difference?

The incumbent of this post will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing strategic, dynamic, interactive and meaningful social media content strategies applicable to daily community management as well as campaigns and live coverage on social media. The post is expected to support the functions of organizational priorities, campaigns and supporter engagement.

This will involve:

  • Driving the design, development and implementation of dynamic, interactive and meaningful social media content strategies.
  • Strategizing on effectively reaching UNICEF's target audiences, especially young people, through social media channels.
  • Project managing social media engagement initiatives, proposing ideas for and lead on engaging social media content and campaigns.
  • Liaising with colleagues in digital marketing to guide strategic approaches and work with graphic designers and agencies as needed, to produce visuals, infographics and apps for campaigns.
  • Improving UNICEF's agility when it comes to reacting to and riding the waves of relevant media (or social media) moments that relate to UNICEF's mandate.
  • Supporting other teams in HQ and offices worldwide on their day to day social media efforts and in their use of Hootsuite Enterprise. 
  • Providing analytics reports and suggesting recommendations on tactics to improve UNICEF's digital presence.

As an advocate for every child, you will have:

  • An advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field. (Or an undergraduate degree plus at least one additional year of demonstrated professional experience in the field of digital media).
  • A minimum of three years of practical and relevant professional work experience in digital media.
  • Two years direct experience managing social media channels. Content strategy experience working with a global organization is an asset. 
  • Knowledge of current best practices in social media communication and engagement strategies.
  • Experience project managing complex campaigns or initiatives.
  • Knowledge of United Nations or other international aid or NGOs highly desirable.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
