The United Nations Department of Field Support is responsible for the delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Deparments of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support (DPKO and DFS) missions as well as Special Political Missions.

The Information and Communications Technology Division of DFS has implemented a range of civilian and military field technologies to address the requirements of peacekeeping operations that have been identified as strategic enablers to make peacekeeping more effective and efficient. Partnerships and bi-lateral sponsorships with member states and other entities are being developed to facilitate the introduction of innovation and modern technologies to support mandate implementation in UN Field Missions.

The incumbent for this post will be placed in the UN Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support’s Strategic Force Generation and Capability Planning Cell. The Data and Visualisation Analyst will play a technical role in developing data components which will bring information into analytics and visualisations which will support strategic decision making.

Under the overall supervision of the UNOPS Senior Programme Manager with DFS/ICTD, the incumbent will directly work under the Strategic Force Generation Cell’s Team Leader or his/her designate in New York.

Functional Responsibilities

The Data and Visualisation Analyst will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Turning data and general ideas into well-designed products with the guidance of senior staff and clients;
  • Support the development process, including guiding staff, scoping, design, implementation,
  • Testing and delivery;
  • Develop corporate visualization solutions derived from multiple data sources using state-of-the-art tools to enable insight and decision-making at various levels;
  • Develop data models, including performance measures, to enable scorecard analysis;
  • Develop report templates and briefing materials for reporting purposes;
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and present results in a clear manner;
  • Perform other duties as required;

The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and those of UNOPS
Impact of Results 

The result of work of the Data and Visualization Analyst impacts directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Department as well as the performance of the services implemented in the DFS/DPKO field missions and headquarters. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.

Education

Education: 

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in information management, computer science, engineering, information systems, statistics, business administration, data science, economics and econometrics, or related field.
Experience:

Required:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in development, implementation and maintenance of businessintelligence / analytics tools and applications, or related tasks;
  • A minimum of one year (1) in developing data analysis solutions to identify and extract relevant business insights;
  • A minimum of one year (1) of experience in producing tools and materials (reports, presentations) to communicate data-driven insights to clients and senior decision-makers;
  • A minimum of one year (1) of experience with MS PowerBI, MS Excel, PowerPivot, Tableau, Qlik Sense or any other similar selfservice analytics toolsets;
  • Experience in quantitative techniques;
  • A minimum of one year (1) of experience working with clients using a user-centric design process;
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with relational databases such as Microsoft SQL and other databases;
  • A minimum of one year (1) of experience in training users in analytics tools;
  • A keen interest in analytics, information management, visualization and performance optimization
Language Requirements:
  • English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this job opening, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
