The Health &Nutrition Officer provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process through the application of theoretical and technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing and presenting technical program information while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support the development and formulation of the Health Program within the Country Program.

Purpose of the Position:

Since the health & nutrition challenges is arising this necessitates that UNICEF Jordan country office intensify the efforts to further improve and scale up the provision of health interventions to new-born baby, children and women affected by the crisis, both those inside the camps and those who are in the host communities.  To effectively implement this UNICEF Jordan is looking for a suitable candidate for a position of Health and Nutrition Officer, to be based in Amman with direct support to implemented activities in the camps. The selected candidate will also be responsible to follow-up, monitor & support the pediatric ward and health clinics in Azraq camp and Zatari camps. 

The Officer provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process through the application of theoretical and technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing and presenting technical program information while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support the development and formulation of the Health Program within the Country Program.

How can you make a difference?

Support to program development and planning

  • Research and analyze regional/national political, social and economic development trends. Collect, analyze, verify and synthesize information to facilitate program development, design and preparation.
  • Prepare technical reports and inputs for program preparation and documentation ensuring accuracy, timeliness and relevancy of information.
  • Facilitate the development/establishment of sectoral program goals, objectives and strategies and results-based planning through analysis of health needs and areas for intervention and submission of assessments for priority and goal setting.
  • Provide technical and administrative support throughout all stages of programming processes by executing/administering a variety of technical program transactions, preparing materials/documentations and complying with organizational processes and management systems, to support program planning, results based planning (RBM) and monitoring and evaluating results.
  • Prepare required documentations/materials to facilitate the program review and approval process.

Program management, monitoring and delivery of results

  • Work closely and collaboratively with internal and external colleagues and partners to collect/analyze/share information on implementation issues, suggest solutions on routine program implementation and submit report to alert appropriate officials and stakeholders for higher-level intervention and/or decision. Keep record of reports and assessments for easy reference and/or to capture and institutionalize lessons learned.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises, program reviews and annual sectoral reviews with government and other counterparts and prepare minutes/reports on results for follow up action by higher management and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on the use of sectoral program resources, monitor the use of related supplies (in particular vaccines and baby mother health kits) and other resources that support the implementation of health interventions in the camp.
  • . Report on issues identified to ensure timely resolution by management/stakeholders. Follow up on unresolved issues to ensure resolution.
  • Prepare inputs for sectoral program/donor reporting.
  • Monitor IYCF Case Management Platform, Data Management & Electronic System to Track Nutrition Status of Syrian Mothers & Children under Five in Azraq and Zatari Camps.
  • Attend health coordination meetings held in camps and provision of information to health and nutrition section on weekly and bi-monthly sitreps on health and nutrition interventions.
  • Monitor and provide required technical support to the pediatric ward and clinics along with vaccination teams in Azrak camp as well as integration of IYCF and ISH in in Za’tari, Azrak camps

Technical and operational support to program implementation

  • Undertake field visits and surveys and/or collect/share information with partners/stakeholders to assess progress and provide technical support and/or refer to relevant officials for resolution. Report on critical issues, bottlenecks and potential problems for timely action to achieve results.
  • Provide technical and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners, UN system partners and other country office partners/donors on the application and understanding of UNICEF policies, strategies, processes and best practices on health and related issues to support program implementation, operations and delivery of results.

Networking and partnership building

  • Build and sustain effective close working partnerships with health sector government counterparts and national stakeholders through active sharing of information and knowledge to enhance program implementation and build capacity of stakeholders to deliver concrete and sustainable results.
  • Research information on potential donors and prepare resource mobilization materials and briefs for fund raising and partnership development purposes.

Innovation, knowledge management and  capacity building

  • Identify, capture, synthesize and share lessons learned for knowledge development and to build the capacity of stakeholders.
  • Apply innovative approaches and promote good practice to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable program results.
  • Assist with oversight of research and ensure results are available for use in knowledge products.
  • Participate as resource person in capacity building initiatives to enhance the competencies of clients/stakeholders.
  • Support the drafting and implementation at camp level of a follow-up health awareness campaign in coordination with C4D, WASH and other UNICEF sections

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education: First university Degree public health/nutrition, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, socio-medical, health education, epidemiology or other health related sciences is required.

Experience:  

  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience professional experience in public health/nutrition planning and management and/or in relevant areas of maternal and neonatal health care, health emergency/humanitarian preparedness. Experience at the international level, UN system or in a developing country is an asset.
  • Field work experience especially in two camps (Zaatari and Azraq) is an advantage.
  • Background/familiarity with Emergency is an asset.

Language requirement: Fluency in English and Arabic required.
