Under the supervision of the Social Policy Specialist, the intern will support the production of advocacy material and Knowledge management products within UNICEF JCO Public Finance for Children Component.

SCOPE:

Under the supervision of the Social Policy Specialist, the intern will support the production of advocacy material and Knowledge management products within UNICEF JCO Public Finance for Children Component.

METHODOLOGY:

Given the specificity of different products, the intern is expected to use a wide range of research methods including primary and secondary data collection and analysis. The candidate should be comfortable with reviewing and understanding public financial documents, and papers that may involve the use of different economic analysis techniques such as CBA and fiscal space analysis.  Overall, the candidate is expected to contribute to the production of budget briefs, and to provide technical assistance to reviewing investment cases and other PF4C products. Supervision and guidance will be provided on a day-to-day basis, and regular meetings will be organized to provide guidance and advice, if necessary. The intern will be exposed to learning and personal development opportunities within UNICEF and with the partners including the humanitarian response.

Work assignment (Specific activities to be conducted):

The intern is expected to assist with the following:

  • Contribute in preparing briefs about public finance for Children in Jordan.
  • Contribute in preparing child-focus budget briefs for different social sectors in Jordan.
  • Provide technical review of investment cases, financing studies, and other PF4C products.
  • Develop/update specific advocacy messages on key UNICEF Jordan PF4C issues.
  • Coordinate with the communications section to disseminate research findings and KM products.

Candidate qualification (if any):

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years.
  • Master’s degree preferably in Public Policy or Economics.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Strong background in Public Economics and Public Finance
  • Experience working in a relevant policy sector.
  • Fluency in English, knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Advanced skills in Excel
  • Experience in data collection and analysis software (STATA/SPSS/ NVivo) is considered an asset. 
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to. 

Estimated duration of the internship:

May-August 2018 (three months)
