Senior Programme Associate, GS-7, Ho Chi Minh, Viet Nam

UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of every child. UNICEF has spent 70 years working to improve the lives of children and their families. Defending children's rights throughout their lives requires a global presence, aiming to produce results and understand their effects. UNICEF believes all children have a right to survive, thrive and fulfill their potential – to the benefit of a better world.
For every child, a champion

The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organisation does - in programs, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasising the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to children’s rights into action. For UNICEF, equity means that all children have an opportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential, without discrimination, bias or favouritism. To the degree that any child has an unequal chance in life - in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions - her or his rights are violated. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, education and protection of a society’s most disadvantaged citizens - addressing inequity - not only will give all children the opportunity to fulfil their potential but also will lead to sustained growth and stability of countries. This is why the focus on equity is so vital. It accelerates progress towards realising the human rights of all children, which is the universal mandate of UNICEF, as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while also supporting the equitable development of nations.

How can you make a difference?

The position is housed in the Programme Partnerships Office in Ho Chi Minh City and supervised by the Corporate Alliances Specialist under the country programme structure Viet Nam. The proposed country programme 2017-2021 aims to achieve a sustainable and equitable impact to improve the well-being of all children in Viet Nam. In lower middle income context in Viet Nam, this will only be achieved by engaging all key stakeholders for child rights, through effective public advocacy, expanded partnerships to leverage government and non-governmental support, capacity, resources and action, for the realization of child rights. Viet Nam is part of the global UN ‘Delivering As One’ reform initiative, whereby Viet Nam has agreed to capitalize on the strengths and comparative advantages of the different members of the UN family and look at ways to increase the UN system’s impact. In Viet Nam, the initiative brings together the expertise, experience and capacities of all UN agencies in the country to provide more coordinated and effective assistance. The six pillars of reform in Viet Nam include One Plan, One Budget, One Leader, One Set of Management Practices, One Voice and the Green One UN House. The UNICEF Viet Nam office is located within the Green One UN House, where UN Agencies are seated according to function rather than Agency.
