Organizational Setting

 

The Department of Safeguards (SG) is the organizational hub for the implementation of IAEA safeguards. The IAEA implements nuclear verification activities for some 180 States in accordance with their safeguards agreements. The safeguards activities are undertaken within a dynamic and technically challenging environment including advanced nuclear fuel cycle facilities and complemented by the political diversity of the countries.

The Department of Safeguards consists of six Divisions\: three Operations Divisions\: A, B and C, for the implementation of verification activities around the world; three Technical Divisions\: Division of Concepts and Planning, Division of Information Management, and Division of Technical and Scientific Services; as well as three Offices\: the Office for Verification in Iran, the Office of Safeguards Analytical Services and the Office of Information and Communication Services.

The primary focus of the Office for Verification in Iran is to perform and document safeguards verification activities and to conduct analysis and evaluations aimed at providing assurances that a State is complying with their nuclear safeguards commitments. The Office implements a broad range of measures, including information analysis and in-field verification, to draw soundly based safeguards conclusions. In addition, the Office is responsible for implementing verification and monitoring activities of the Iran nuclear related commitment set out in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.


Main Purpose

 

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Department’s verification and monitoring activities in Iran, therefore, whilst the position reports to the Chemistry Team Leader in Nuclear Material Laboratory, Office of Safeguards Analytical Services (SGAS) on a day-to-day basis, it sits primarily within the Safeguards Office for Verification in Iran.

Reporting to the Chemistry Team Leader, as a Team Member, the Laboratory Documentation Assistant assembles sample receipt and shipment documents, and files confidential information in the Analytical Services Office of the Nuclear Material Laboratory (NML-SAS). He/she is also responsible for other information inputs related to meeting preparation, data entries related to incoming and outgoing records, and the transport of seals to headquarters.


Functions / Key Results Expected

 

 

  • Perform routine tasks in the NML-SAS according to established procedures\:
    o Organize incoming and outgoing shipment documents by collating information.
    o Consolidate and organize documentation for filing in the confidential records archive.
    o Prepare the meeting package for the Weekly Coordination Meeting.
    o Organize documentation and prepare the packaging for the transport of metal seals to headquarters.
  • Perform data inputs, such as sample receipt and report information, to the Laboratory Management Information System (LIMS).
  • Carry out pre-defined user tests of new software in the NML-SAS.
  • Assist with the quality control of sample receipt data.
  • Assist with the organisation of external quality control samples.
  • Participate in the NML emergency team (assembly warden).

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

 

 

  • Completed secondary education, preferably in the field of chemistry and/or information technology.
  • 2 years of relevant experience with office work including the handling and protection of confidential information.
  • Experience using a laboratory information management (LIMS) system is considered an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of German an asset. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
  • English language test (level 2) to IAEA standard.

Note\: The incumbent may perform his/her work in areas involving exposure to radioactive materials. Therefore, as Occupationally Exposed Worker, he/she must be medically cleared by VIC Medical Service and is subject to an appropriate radiation and health monitoring programme, in accordance with IAEA's Radiation Safety Regulations.


Remuneration

 

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 33381 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report. Recruitment will be on a LOCAL BASIS only. Outside applicants are required to supply to the IAEA or to authorize it to seek all information relevant to their suitability for employment by the IAEA. Testing may be part of the recruitment process.
