Working Environment: 

Country Office Development and Support (CODAS) team, within the Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships Division, based in Geneva supports UNICEF offices in their work with the private sector, both financial and non-financial engagement. The vision of our team is that UNICEF country offices are fully equipped and empowered to mobilize individuals, key influencers and businesses to support and respect the rights of every child around the world.

Core functions of the team:

  1. Create an enabling organizational environment for country offices to optimize their private sector work, including assuring the right leadership, policy, procedures, guidance, business simplification, capacity-building and technical support.
  2. Optimize the virtual global working network between Geneva HQ, Regional Support Centers and country offices. To be the eyes and ears for our colleagues around the world (provide guidelines and cascade information), and to be their voice (advocate for divisional support and influence organizational policy change).
  3. Be a change agent to seize areas of opportunity to achieve divisional goals, focusing on areas which are not well covered by existing plans, e.g. advocate for new and cost-effective ways of private sector fundraising in country offices.

How can you make a difference?

  • Co-design dynamic ways of disseminating headquarter information and materials to country offices
  • Facilitate in the preparation of main events (orientation, annual meetings, etc.) to ensure effective learning and amazing experiences for participants, and ensure continued engagement through virtual means (such as webinars)
  • Implement the sharing of information (vertical) systematically via community groups, intranet etc. and increase knowledge sharing among offices (horizontal)
  • Research on topics of interest to the team and prepare engaging presentations
  • Implement participatory meetings to simplify processes and actively promote a mindset of simplification in everyday work
  • Support MENA Regional Manager in working with country offices within the region

Internship Duration:  June – December 2018 (flexible start and end date)

The preference is for a 6 months internship to ensure a good learning experience and being able to contribute to concrete projects. However, in exceptional cases a shorter duration is possible, but the absolute minimum is 3 months (full time). There is a possibility to continue part-time from September onwards for students based in Geneva. Please note that the total duration of the internship on a full-time basis cannot exceed six months.

Location: 

The internship will be based in the CODAS team within PSFP, in UNICEF, Geneva, Switzerland office.

Salary/Payment: 

In accordance to UNICEF’s guidelines, interns will be paid a stipend of USD 1,500 per month for full-time work; part-time internship will be paid accordingly. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship. For interns recruited outside the duty station a lump sum of USD 1,000 may be paid to cover the travel costs.

Insurance: 

UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work with the CODAS team. 

Eligibility criteria:

To be considered for an internship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years. - Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must demonstrate excellent academic performance through recent university or institution records.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office;
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have...

  • Proficiency in English is a must and good knowledge of the working language of the office you are applying to (French) is required.
  • Knowledge of MS Office is required. Excellent knowledge and/or ability to use the latest tools available to facilitate our work (for example setting up online surveys etc.).
  • Good verbal and written communication;
  • Proactive and innovative spirit;
  • Action-orientated;
  • Good team player, open to providing and giving feedback and willing to learn; 
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving and able to see new, creative ways around obstacles.
  • Additional consideration will be given for any past experience.
