Purpose for the job

To use specialized commodity knowledge to ensure that the appropriate quality standards are being consistently applied and maintained for pharmaceutical and/or nutrition products and food supplements globally purchased by UNICEF Supply Division and Country Offices.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  1. Responsible for the selective quality inspection/testing of pharmaceutical and/or nutrition products, on receipt in Copenhagen and at any location of manufacturing required, including the field, and ensure fitness for use and consistence between the item, the material specification and purchase order requirements; 
  2. Under guidance of the supervisor takes part in approval of manufacturers of pharmaceutical and nutrition products and food supplements. Performs or arrange GMP inspection of manufacturers where relevant;
  3. Manages handling of complaints and recalls of pharmaceutical and nutrition products under guidance from the supervisor;
  4. Arranges Pre-Delivery Inspections of Pharmaceutical and Nutrition products and food supplements in order to ensure compliance with specifications for the products;
  5. Works with relevant centres in Supply Division to implement temperature controlled shipments of pharmaceuticals and other relevant products supplied to and from Supply Division as well as for direct shipment to the customer;
  6. Any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Education:

  • A completed Advanced University Degree (Master’s Degree) in Pharmacy, Nutrition, Food Technology, or relevant technical field, with background experience on pharmaceutical and/or nutrition products is required.

Or

  • A completed 1st University Degree (Bachelor’s Degree), in Pharmacy, Nutrition, Food Technology, or relevant technical field, with background experience on pharmaceutical and/or nutrition products with minimum 10 years’ progressive responsible professional work that may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in a commercial, governmental authority, or an international organization, some of which should be at the international level is required;
  • Background in quality assurance of pharmaceutical and / or nutrition products as well as GMP inspections or audits is required;
  • Must be a qualified and experienced QMS/GMP auditor;
  • Knowledge of international collaboration in forums such as WHO, FAO, WFP and PIC/S is an asset;
  • Broad knowledge of WHO GMP Guidelines and/or Codex Alimentarius and ISO 22000 required;
  • Prior experience in inspection or audit of manufacturers of nutrition products or pharmaceuticals is required;
  • Experience in international collaboration between governments and international organizations is an asset;
  • Good computer skills;
  • Knowledge of public procurement principles and processes;
  • Knowledge of risk management.

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN Language is an asset.
