The United Nations Department of Field Support, Information and Communications Technology Division (UN DFSICTD) is responsible for the delivery of applications that satisfy the requirements of the Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support (DPKO/DFS) missions as well as Special Political Missions (SPMs).

DFS has implemented a range of systems to address the principal requirements of peacekeeping operations and to support and enhance the processes DFS undertakes.

UNOPS has been requested to assist in the implementation of this activity.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks related to storage provisioning and host integration;
  • Execute authorized periodic and corrective system maintenance tasks and maintain system health check records;
  • Interact with network and systems administrators to proactively facilitate integration of hosts and storage array systems;
  • Perform performance tuning based on best practices defined for each system and conduct periodic performance benchmark tests;
  • Remain current with storage system technologies and systems to facilitate induction of new systems as and when required;
  • Implement storage system incident and problem management in conjunction with the service desk and actively take part in configuration and change management activities;
  • Perform root cause analysis for problem resolution and implement necessary changes as required and authorized;
  • Troubleshoot storage arrays in the event of system failures to recover operational capabilities as quickly as possible;
  • Actively involve with third parties engaged in storage infrastructure projects to ensure acceptable quality of service delivery and prevent information security incidents;
  • Assist in preparing technical specifications for field storage infrastructure;
  • Ensure information security policies are enforced;
  • Periodically (at least once every month) collect system logs and analyze them to evaluate system health, performance and potential factors that could affect data safety and data centre operation;
  • Assist the backup administrator with all aspects related to backup to disk infrastructure;
  • Perform tasks related to hybrid cloud brokerage;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

  • Completion of secondary school education or equivalent technical school. This experience should result in the ability to understand complex technical system requirements and communicate them clearly in a verbal or written format. Candidates with Technical/Professional diploma may be considered with a reduced experience requirement.
Experience:

Required Experience:

  •  A minimum of 5 years’ experience in providing engineering support for IT systems is required, preferably in large data centres with experience in: Operating systems Windows, Linux. Enterprise storage infrastructure experience (DellEMC, HPE Storage and layered software that support high availability, data safety and storage manipulations (Recover Point, Snap view, SRDF, SAN Copy etc.); Backup and recovery solutions based on DellEMC Networker, DellEMC AVAMAR and Veritas NetBackup.
  • Possession of ITIL foundations certificate is mandatory.
  • Exposure in Information Security Management System (ISMS: ISO 27001), or other industry standard related best practices.
  • Ability to grasp complex concepts, logical and analytical approach to solving problems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team of diverse skills.
  • Good communication and presentation skills including experience in drafting technical documents.

Desirable Experience:

  • Brokering and administering enterprise scale hybrid cloud (Azure and/or AWS)
  • AWS or Azure cloud related certifications are desirable.
  • NAS Operation and management,  Specifically: DelllEMC ISILON, DellEMC Unified Storage Arrays, and HPE NAS Storage solutions.
  • ITIL intermediate level is an advantage.
  • Data replication architecture and products; Enterprise data backup and recovery operations.
  • Understanding of Project Management framework based on PRINCE2 including some exposure in delivering activity based initiatives. 
Language Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of English (both written and verbal) is required. Knowledge of other UN language is desirable.
