Human Resources Intern - Graphic Design & Internal Communications

Unit/ Project Background:

The Human Resources Intern – Graphic Design and Internal Communication will be part of the Human Resources (HR) Team. The UN Women’s HR Section provides strategic guidance and high-quality support and services to employees in partnership with managers to ensure a productive and pleasant work environment. Aligned with HR best practices in the UN common system and the International Civil Service Commission’s Framework for Human Resource Management, UN Women is guided by modern, efficient and user-friendly policies and procedures. The HR team in New York manages and oversees all HR functions for the UN Women global workforce. This includes workplace relations, recruitment and staffing, talent management, contract management and benefits and entitlements as well as workforce planning and HR policy guidance.

The Intern – Internal Communication and Human Resources will be part of the Organizational Development and Workplace Relations teams, and will be supervised by the HR Specialist - Organizational Development. The Human Resources Intern supports the Human Resources team in the development and successful implementation of HR functions related to internal communications.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide graphic design and writing / editing support to the development and implementation of HR outreach and communications

  • Provide support to the maintenance and content management of the newly launched HR intranet pages.
  • Update HR Intranet pages as necessary
  • Draft and edit HR inputs to the UN Women internal newsletter

2. Develop graphic design, video and presentation contents related to Human Resources

  • Develop information and training materials related to performance management, including infographics, short videos, and interactive presentations
  • Develop information and training materials related to Workplace relations and engagement issues, using graphic design, video and other tools
  • Develop information and materials for learning and development
  • Gather facts and curate content for a variety of communications vehicles, targeting different team member population segments; adapt content to meet audience needs
  • Prepare files for various digital platforms
  • Prepare/design compelling PowerPoint presentations
  • Assist in developing communication strategies relating to human resources initiatives.

3. Proof and edit a variety of communications and materials

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • The intern must have studies in Communication, Graphic Design, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing Human Resources, Social Sciences or other similar subject at the university level.
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required; Working knowledge of another UN language a distinct advantageI

Interns are not financially remunerated by UN Women.

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment

UN Women Internship Policy:

1.) Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  •  Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  •  Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

2.) UN Women internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;

3.) All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;

4.) UN Women accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;

5.) The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;

6.) Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN WOMEN during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;

7.) The intern must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan, proof of school enrollment, a scanned copy of his/her passport, two letters of recommendation, and application
