The Community Health Coordinator is based in PCI’s Washington, DC office and will support PCI’s health team, one of four technical areas in the Technical Leadership and Support team. The health portfolio includes integrated programming in sexual and reproductive health (SRH), adolescent health, maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), nutrition, HIV/AIDS, and infectious diseases. The Community Health Coordinator will be responsible for organizing and managing project documents and ensuring timely and effective coordination and communication within the HQ health team, between HQ and field teams, across technical teams and with colleagues in PCI’s San Diego office.

The Community Health Coordinator will also be responsible for coordinating donor reporting processes, program design and proposal development and research studies; drafting technical briefs and capacity statements; editing of programmatic materials; accessing and sharing of state-of-the-art resources and promising practices; and facilitation of organizational learning and capacity building. Applicants should have experience in at least one of the technical areas above, have technical writing skills, and be highly organized and detail-oriented.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Internal Coordination & Communication

  • Facilitate regular, timely communication between HQ staff and between HQ and field staff;
  • Document and organize all health team meetings and action items; facilitate action-item follow-up;
  • Coordinate and consolidate technical inputs from HQ health team and liaise with field teams as needed;

  • Participate in team meetings and facilitate sharing of information between programs to ensure technical integration and alignment;

  • Support health team staff and consultants to ensure activities are being carried out according to agreements and workplans;

  • Gather quarterly updates from field teams and consolidate for board report;

  • Provide support to DC-based interns, e.g. manage schedules and assignments, as needed;

  • Electronically organize and manage all relevant Health team files including resources and project documents; and

  • Participate in PCI’s innovation efforts and in teams on innovation initiatives.

Support to Program and Technical Quality

  • Support successful program start-up and implementation;
  • Support senior staff with ongoing technical assistance and capacity building;
  • Support development of state-of-the-art resources (technical, material, institutional and individual) for use in PCI’s programs;
  • Support the development of relevant research activities across PCI’s portfolio;
  • Support organizational learning and cross pollination of promising practices throughout the organization, through organizing the sharing of information electronically, via workshops, tool kits, compilation documents, etc.;
  • Support the technical quality of donor reports, publications or presentations through writing and/or editing and formatting;
  • Coordinate timely completion and submission of all donor reports, including by communicating and follow-up with field teams.

Program Development

  • Support team leaders in the development and submission of successful proposals through literature reviews, technical writing, and/or editing;

  • Support project design and program planning, including coordinating the selection of appropriate methodologies for program implementation, learning, and monitoring and evaluation;

  • Assist with developing, writing, editing, and formatting of marketing materials such as capacity statements, technical briefs, case studies, and conference abstracts.

  • Other duties as assigned

Representation

  • Ensure that PCI is effectively represented by participating in events, conferences, workshops as requested; note-take and share out on key learnings/take-aways.

DC Office Support:

  • This position will also belong to a cohort of coordinators supporting the DC Office on a rotating basis. The coordinator supports, maintains, improves D.C. Office operations.
  • The primary responsibilities include overseeing general office/facilities matters, maintaining office supplies, administrative assistance to senior executives, and providing an array of assistance to the D.C. staff in the areas of: communications; networking; special events; travel and other logistics.
  • S/he will also be the liaison between the International Office (IO) and the DC office on administrative and facilities tasks.
  • The coordinator works with the Executive Assistant to ensure timely completion of special projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MPH or equivalent preferred;
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience, including international public health programming;
  • At least one year of relevant overseas work experience preferred, particularly with community-based health programming;
  • A passion for the mission and values of PCI;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, including technical writing skills and ability to effectively communicate across cultures;
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills;
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and comfortably;
  • Program development and grant writing experience preferred;
  • Experience or familiarity with US government grant proposal preparation and regulations a plus;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Experience with gender and/or women or girls’ empowerment programming preferred;
  • Fluency in English required, proficiency in Spanish or French preferred;
  • Computer literacy required; familiarity with all MS applications and spread sheet software required; statistical analysis ability a plus;
  • Must be able to travel internationally (5% - 10%).
