CARE is seeking a talented, experienced Senior Director of Development and Partnerships to lead interactions with key investors and stakeholders, and broader outreach and fundraising activities in the Los Angeles area. A critical component of the role is to work with individual donors and family/private foundations to raise major gifts for CARE’s unrestricted program, The Impact Fund, as well as restricted gifts focused on CARE’s core programs, and most especially campaign gifts from new prospects.

The Sr. Director will also support key partnerships with agencies and internal stakeholders to develop celebrity relationships and entertainment influencers. The multi-faceted nature of this role reinforces its critical, central nature to the overall success of CARE in the Los Angeles area. As a member of a national Individual Giving team, the person in this role will be part of a national major gift strategy group and will report directly to the Executive Director of the Western Region. This position will be based in Los Angeles.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, analyze, and propose innovative development strategies that facilitate donor engagement and the achievement of major gifts fundraising goals
  • Effectively cultivate and manage a portfolio of active campaign donors and prospects, focusing primarily on gifts in the $10K- $1M+ range
  • Provide timely and accurate reports to senior leaders and board on all fundraising activities
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships across the organization with respect to fundraising objectives, work plans, recommendations, and potential risks/roadblocks
  • Oversee CARE events (friend-raisers and fundraisers) across the region
  • Attend events and key meetings where celebrity supporters are involved
  • Identify and develop support from celebrities, influencers, and decision-makers in the entertainment industry, to elevate awareness about the amazing, life-saving work being done by CARE
  • Build and manage relationships with a targeted portfolio of celebrity supporters as agreed upon with CEO and CMO

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Public Administration and/or a related field required; master’s degree preferred
  • 5-7 years of major gift experience at the highest donor levels, including a proven record of successful solicitation of major outright and planned gifts
  • At least 3 years of professional experience working with donors in Los Angeles
  • Proven ability to generate revenue and awareness for an organization
  • Proven ability to envision and develop a strategic plan; self-starter who can see the big picture while executing programs and delivering results
  • Strong written communications skills, along with highly effective oral communications and engaging presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills. High level of comfort and effectiveness working with high net worth individuals, corporate business leaders, and celebrities
  • Results-oriented with the ability to work under pressure, adapt easily to changing situations and priorities and meet multiple deadlines and goals
  • Experience of dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders and resolving challenging situations
  • Personal flexibility to travel within and outside of the USA and to work evenings if required
