The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Purpose of the job:
The purpose of Security Assistant is to Serves the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) general security issues and works closely with field security officer, perform all delegated security task which related to security department in Badghis province.
Overall the security assistant in Badghis is responsible to provide security related updates to program and support units in field, and having close coordination with area office for providing on time security advice and support to related field office.

Job description

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  • Ensure proper filing of documents
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function
  • Maintain incident logs and report NRC related incidents to FSO
  • Maintain record of statistics of incidents in NRC operational areas as per FSO instruction
  • Work closely with field staff in developing information networks and identifying key contacts throughout NRC operating areas.
  • Report on threats/changes in dynamics which may change security situation for NRC in Badghis

  • Make field visits with program staffs, and make sure NRC security protocols are implemented
  • Conduct site/area security assessment in NRC new operational areas
  • Administer TARs for Badghis and relevant areas upon request by supervisor or in his absence
  • Be prepared to conduct weekly security briefings in Badghis Support office and program office
  • Provide recommendations on NRC office compound physical security including barbed wire and other reinforcements
  • Develop and maintain guards work schedule (day/night shifts)
  • Develop and maintain guards annual leave schedule
  • Keep track and maintain guards overtime sheet, and make necessary follow up for payment
  • To update all emergency and contact lists and report on monthly basis.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Management or politics
  • At least 3 years relevent work experience in a humanitarian/recovery context in recent years,
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts, preferably in security positions
  • Fluency in local languages (Dari and Pashtu)
  • Working knowledge of the English language is essential
