NORCAP is the Norwegian Refugee Council’s global provider of expertise to the humanitarian, development and peacebuilding sectors. We build partnerships with international organisations and national actors to protect lives, rights and  livelihoods. NORCAP provides expert personnel and collaborates with our partners to identify needs and to establish common goals and projects. We help strengthen partner capacity and improve coordination and collaboration. 

Since 1991, NORCAP has deployed experts to more than 9000 missions to crisis all around the world.

 

 

Due to high demand, NORCAP is currently growing our pool of experienced Child Protection experts (technical and coordination) in order to effectively support our partners. If you have the skills and experience described below, we encourage you to apply!

 

  • Children are among those who suffer most during disasters, facing risks such as displacement, family separation, injuries and disease.  In addition, incidents of violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect increase in the aftermath of a disaster.

  • Experts in this field should possess high level knowledge and international experience of Child Protection in emergencies, disaster preparedness and response, refugee or displacement settings.

  • And should be able to demonstrate where they have ensured that child protection priorities and concerns are coordinated, integrated and addressed within the national, regional and local responses.

 

Qualifications:

  • Advanced university qualification, preferably in a relevant field

  • A first university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree.

  • Minimum 5 years of professional humanitarian Child Protection (CP) experience in the field (equivalent to the UN P3 level or higher)

  • Experience with case management and social work is desirable.

  • Thorough understanding of CP assessments, monitoring & reporting, establishing and managing protection programs and promotion in displacement contexts.

  • Demonstrated experience with inter-agency coordination and consensus building, in refugee and/or cluster contexts with various UN agencies, NGO’s and civil society organisations.

  • Experience with UNICEF and / or UNHCR is desirable.

  • Experience with delivering training and capacity building on CP for UN staff and other stakeholders on basic elements of CP promotion and response, the design of CP programmes and coordination mechanisms.

  • Ability to support CP data management (collection, storage, analysis and sharing) in line with safety and ethical standards. 

  • Fluency in English; fluency in French and/or Arabic is highly regarded.

NORCAP missions:

  • Normally six (6) months, but may be extended

  • No family duty stations

 

Practical Information:

  • Protection is at the heart of the work NORCAP does; candidates selected for interview can expect for this aspect of their profile to be explored in some detail.

  • Selected candidates are expected to be available for mission within the first three (3) months of having been accepted to the roster.

  • Shortlisted candidates may need to pass an English language test as part of the selection process.

  • Interviews will be conducted face to face in Oslo (Norway) shortly after the closing of this advertisement.
