The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking for its Inspectorate General - Complaints Mechanism Division

at its headquarters in Luxembourg:

INTERN

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September 2018)

(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

Your internship is intended to support the implementation of the existing policy and procedures. You are not expected to conduct any complaint’s handling by yourself and you will assist and support the relevant Complaints officers. As such, you will be involved during the different stages of such handling. You will therefore be offered a learning opportunity regarding the EIB Group accountability and recourse functions.

Responsibilities

Under the responsibility of the relevant Complaints Officer, you will contribute to the implementation of the EIB Group Complaints Mechanism policy and procedures by helping with the handling of specific complaints in:

  • Gathering and reviewing internal and external information pertinent to the case;
  • Establishing the relevant regulatory framework concerning the issues highlighted by the complaint;
  • Analysing the cause of the complaint and assessing whether the Group’s policies and procedures have been followed;
  • Engaging with the relevant stakeholders, whenever appropriate;
  • Reporting on the findings and conclusions.
  • Making recommendations for corrective actions whenever appropriate, and follow-up implementation;
  • Trying to resolve/address the underlying issues giving rise to the complaint or grievance;
  • Drafting appropriate answers to complainants.

Academic qualifications and professional skills

  • Final years of studies or University degree (Bachelor/Master) in law, political science, sustainable development, environmental or social studies;
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and good knowledge of French. Knowledge of other EU or non-EU language would be an advantage;
  • Some knowledge regarding accountability/complaints mechanisms, environmental and social impacts, international organisations and/or relations with Civil Society Organisations;
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office software, in particular Excel and Word;
  • Very good analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to summarise and present information with attention to detail;
  • Ability to draft clear and concise reports;
  • Committed team-worker;
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills;
  • Flexibility and reliability, result orientation.
