The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking for its Legal Directorate – Legal Department, Operations - South East Europe Division

at its headquarters in Luxembourg:

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September 2018)

(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

You will have some experience of how a European Institution works, to enhance you research skills and to acquire the necessary background for your possible future career in law.

Responsibilities

Under the responsibility of the Head of Division or of another experienced lawyer, you will conduct research (theory and practice) on the impact of the EU Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD) on the EIB’s lending operations in South East Europe.

More generally, you will:

  • Become familiar with the EIB Finance Contract and legal aspects of the EIB operations;
  • Become familiar with EIB procedures and legal issues, with particular reference to Italy and /or the jurisdictions in the Balkans and Turkey;
  • Reviewing available in-house precedent documents (in English or in a language the Trainee has knowledge of) and collecting and classifying internal know-how and 'tacit' knowledge;
  • Compiling standard form documentation, checklists, performing legal process analysis;
  • Conducting research (whenever necessary), both with respect to internal processes and procedures, as well as certain matters of law in which you have already some knowledge;
  • Translate legal documents;
  • Draft simple amendment to finance contract and/or review of Cp's.

Academic qualifications and professional skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree (Bachelor/Master) in Law is required;
  • Legal qualification in one of the jurisdictions covered by the Division would be an advantage;
  • Good drafting skills in English.  Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage;
  • Good analytical skills and comparative legal skills;
  • Interest in banking law matters. Some previous exposure and experience in such area would be an advantage.
