The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been operational in Georgia proper since 1999 and in Abkhazia since 2005. The overall objective of DRC’s work in the area is to reduce displacement related risks, support and facilitate durable solutions for IDPs in Georgia proper and returnees, persons of concern and in a refugee-like situation in Abkhazia.

 

What communications officer will be doing?

  • Assist in planning, developing and implementing DRC SC communication and visibility activities;
  • Support project managers in developing communication and visibility plans for their projects;
  • Be directly responsible for the day-to-day coordination and implementation of the communication and visibility plans for different projects;
  • Prepare and update information in Georgian and English on DRC SC’s Facebook page;
  • Provide support to development and production of project related visibility materials e.g. leaflets, banners, newsletters, thematic bulletins, photobooks, etc.
  • Logistical assistance and support to programme staff in the organization of conferences and workshops and ensuring media coverage;
  • Provide support in arranging advocacy events to programme staff via liaison with media outlets;
  • Prepare and translate press releases, agendas, minutes of the meetings, etc.
  • Provide support in capturing photos at different events;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Strategic Partnerships Manager.

 

What skills and experience communications officer need to demonstrate?

  • Currently studying or graduated less than 3 years ago in the fields of communication studies, media studies or journalism;
  • Fluent in Georgian and English (spoken and written);
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (spoken and written);
  • Ability to tailor language, tone, style and format according to the audience;
  • Computer literate, including internet experience;
  • Strong planning and organizing skills;
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure;
  • Ability to perform responsibilities in a professional manner;
  • Photography skills will be an advantage.
