The EIB, the European Union's bank, in the framework of its GRAD programme, is seeking to recruit for its Risk Management Directorate Coordination Division – Operational Risk Unit, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a:

Graduate Operational Risk

This is a full time position

The term of this contract will be 2 years

Purpose

To support the Operational Risk team through the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of operational risk within the Bank, as well as supporting the various services in analysing and improving the quality of internal procedures and controls in order to minimise exposure to operational risk.

Operating Network

You will work within a team under the responsibility of the Head of the Operational Risk Unit.
Main key contacts will be with RM colleagues, FI, Ops and TMR. You will learn about the Operational Risk Unit (OPR) in EIB. To monitor and control operational risk, EIB has an Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF), which is designed to enable EIB to maintain a sound and well-controlled operational risk environment. The ORMF focuses on the identification, governance, assessment, monitoring, mitigating and reporting of operational risk within the EIB. The main activities in the Operational Risk Unit are Incident Management, Key Risk Indicators, Products Programs approved by the NPC, Scenarios, Capital Calculation and Management Reporting.

Specific Post Environment (if applicable)

Specifically, you will be involved in the project concerning the review of incidents database: incidents mapping to process type, risk even type, business line, etc. (2003-2017) as well as in the gain and loss analysis in the SAS system.

Accountabilities

As Graduate Operational Risk, you will:

  • Review of incidents database: incidents mapping to process type, risk even type, business line, etc. (2003-2017) as well as in the gain and loss analysis in SAS system. However, a professional Officer is fully dedicated and responsible for the management of the project and follow-up of underlying further developments.
  • Participate in the creation of the monthly Operational Risk Report as well as of the Operational Risk section of the Monthly and Semi-annual Risk Report
  • Support the unit in the handling of incidents and their recording in the Bank’s loss event database. Review of controls, procedures, processes and systems, recommending improvements as necessary
  • Maintenance of the database of risks and controls
  • Secretarial activities for the New Product Committee (NPC); follow-up of NPC decisions in the areas of new lending, treasury or borrowing transactions
  • Take part in the annual production of the Cartography of Risk at the EIB report


Qualifications

  • University degree in a business related field (Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Banking)
  • General knowledge about EIB's mission and strategy
  • Comfortable working with big amounts of data
  • Deep understanding of MS Office Suite and especially Excel
  • Professional experience in operational risk would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of the main software applications and databases used in the Bank would be an asset
  • Ability to learn new IT software
