The Future International Talent pool ( FIT Pool) is an entry point for a professional international career with WFP. WFP is looking to build a pool of highly qualified and dynamic talents interested in going to any of our 80 countries in which WFP operates, including hardship duty stations, when the need arises.

A FIT Pool member is placed on the pool for a period up to 2 years during which he/ she is considered with priority each time WFP has a specific need for a Fixed Term International Professional staff member in his functional area and level.

JOB PURPOSE

To support and/or manage nutrition programmes to contribute to meeting the nutritional needs of beneficiaries within the country and/or provide technical advice and guidance on nutrition strategies, programme design and implementation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the general supervision and guidance of the Manager, the Nutritionist will be responsible for the following key duties:

• Provide technical advice to Country Office on nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive strategies, programmes and policy issues including assessment and analysis, the choice of objectives, activities, transfer modalities and commodity choice for nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive programming in line with WFP standards and processes. 
• Support the strengthening of national nutrition initiatives, including the development of national government policies related to nutrition as well as nutrition strategies, action plans, protocols and guidelines in compliance with international guidance and current evidence and in line with multistakeholder platforms guidance such as SUN movement. 
• Work with staff in procurement, logistics, finance, Cash Based Transfer, school feeding and other programme units and other divisions to ensure effective design and delivery of WFP nutrition programming. 
• Ensure nutrition requirements are integrated in all assessments and analysis, monitoring and evaluation, in close collaboration with Vulnerability Analysis Mapping and Monitoring & Evaluation teams. 
• Provide support for operational partnerships, including inter-agency collaboration, to ensure a strong multi-sectorial response to nutrition in both emergency and non-emergency settings. 
• Prepare accurate and timely reporting and learning, contributing to a knowledge base that informs decision making of WFP and other stakeholders. 
• Design, conduct and communicate the nutrition situation clearly and effectively to nutrition stakeholders. 
• Represent WFP at national, regional  and international meetings to contribute in technical discussions, exchange experiences, advocate for nutrition interventions and identify areas of potential collaboration. 
• Build capacity of WFP staff, partners and national governments to prepare for and respond to nutrition problems. 
• Support the monitoring and evaluation of WFP activities, provide technical analysis, and interpretation. 
• Guide and supervise more junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them on more complex analysis and queries. 
• Contribute to emergency preparedness actions, providing technical recommendations on contingency planning, risk analysis and early warning related to nutrition risks. 
• Act in an emergency response capacity as required.
• Take responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives in all areas of work, to ensure equal participation of women and men.
• Other duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Advanced University degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Food Technology, Medicine or other related fields or First University degree with additional related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

Working Experience:

• At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in nutrition, public health management, development of projects, emergency assistance, and/or operational aspects of national, bilateral or multilateral food assistance.
• Experience conducting nutritional assessments, analysing data, and drafting recommendations for program implementation.
• Experience with donor and inter-agency coordination.
• Experience developing and implementing nutritional policies, strategies, protocols and guidelines, including  for nutrition-specific and sensitive interventions in emergency, recovery and development contexts.
• Excellent professional communication skills, verbal and written; with experience in writing proposals and preparing high-level reports.
• Experience with designing and implementing nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programmes and activities.
• Experience with providing technical support and capacity building to Government counterparts and other stakeholders.

Language:

• Fluency (level C) in both spoken and written English.
• Intermediate knowledge (level B) of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages).

DESIRED EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

• Experience working with governments on developing nutrition policies, strategies and/or implementing nutrition programs (within food security or health).
• Experience in emergency contexts is desired.
• Experience in working in diverse operational contexts, nationally and internationally, with specific experience in development and humanitarian contexts.
• Knowledge of food fortification.
• Experience in coordinating Zero Hunger Challenge, SUN, REACH or similar coordination mechanisms, such as the cluster system at country or global level, across multi-stakeholders.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Selected candidates will be placed in the FIT Pool and may be contacted as the needs arise for fixed-term international positions in any of the countries in which WFP operates, including hardship duty stations. The FIT Pool membership will last 2 years.

Mobility is and continues to be a core contractual requirement in WFP. These positions are rotational which means that the incumbent shall be subject to the regular reassignment process unless the position is reclassified as non-rotational. Professional level positions are rotational on a period of 2 to 4 years, mobility is the essence of WFP.
