UNICEF South Sudan seeks an experienced Security Officer, NO-A (Open to nationals of South Sudan only)

Under the general guidance of the Representative of UNICEF South Sudan and the Country Field Security Advisor based in Juba, the Security Officer will deal with day to day security matters pertaining to the safety and security of staff, assets and programmes of the South Sudan Country Office.

Key functions of the Security Officer include:

- Assist in the preparation, maintenance and updating of the area-specific security plan and contingency plans in accordance with the UN Security Policy Manual;

- Regularly update the Representative on Security developments and establish and maintain contact with: National Security Agencies, Security Officials of diplomatic missions and international organizations, if present in said region/s, in order to share information pertaining to staff safety and security

- Act as liaison between management, the Security Unit and Host Nation Government Officials and Security agencies;

- Maintain contact with government and Opposition officials and act as liaison between management, the Security Unit and Host Nation Government and Opposition Officials and Security agencies;

- Assist in the maintenance, operation and utilization of the common UN Emergency Communications System (ECS) system;

- Assist in the development and implementation of office security requirements for UNICEF and other UN agencies;

- Conduct residential security surveys of UNICEF international staff and recommend physical security measures to the staff member (upon request also provide this assistance to national staff);

- Immediately report all security related incidents, involving UNICEF staff and eligible dependants, to the Representative, Security Advisors, FSCO, JOC Duty Officer, ASC, DO and UNDSS CSA where appropriate;

 

Profile of the candidate

- University degree or equivalent qualifications in the related field i.e. staff college qualified.

- One year of progressively responsible professional work experience in security related tasks in multi-cultural surroundings in South Sudan, requiring decision making at extreme levels would be an attribute.

- Years of progressive service in the military or police/law enforcement agencies, incorporating, threat assessments and data analysis would be an advantage.

- A good command of English (e.g. spoken and written fluency) is essential and competency in another UN language would be a distinct advantage

- Ability to make timely and quality judgments and decisions.

- Computer skills, including internet navigation, and various office applications.
