UNICEF Madagascar is currently implementing its 2015-2019 country programme of cooperation. The country programme encompasses the following programmes (each of which is managed by a Section within the UNICEF Country office): Health, Nutrition, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), Education, Child Protection, and Social Policy, Research and Evaluation. Cross cutting sections on Planning, Communication for Development, and Media and External Relations support the programmatic work of the office.

I. Background
 
UNICEF Madagascar is currently implementing its 2015-2019 country programme of cooperation. The country programme encompasses the following programmes (each of which is managed by a Section within the UNICEF Country office): Health, Nutrition, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), Education, Child Protection, and Social Policy, Research and Evaluation. Cross cutting sections on Planning, Communication for Development, and Media and External Relations support the programmatic work of the office.
 
II Purpose
 
The Social Policy, Research and Evaluation programme aims to ensure greater national commitment, accountability and capacity to legislate, plan and budget for inclusive social policies, and progressively integrate social protection measures into relevant programme areas.
To this end the priority actions of the section include:

1. Analysing the socio-economic situation and its impact on the situation of mothers and children to better influence social policies and budgeting and strengthen evidence based programming.
2. Establishing policy dialogue and partnerships with national partners to ensure greater national commitment to legislate plan and budget for inclusive social policies.
3. Facilitating dialogue and partnerships with the government and donors to develop a national social protection framework and to progressively integrate social protection measures into relevant programme areas.
4. Establishing and maintaining public and private sector partnerships to influence business behaviour to promote respect for and support of child rights and business principles, and to leverage support for programmes.
 
The purpose of the internship is to support the Social Policy, Research and Evaluation team in developing and implementing an advocacy and dissemination strategy of research and studies supported.
 
III. Tasks
 
Under the general guidance of the Chief, Social Policy, and in collaboration with the Research and Evaluation Specialist, the intern will develop and support implementation of an advocacy and dissemination plan for studies and research undertaken. To this end the intern will undertake the following specific tasks:

• Review studies and analysis undertaken and in coordination with relevant colleagues identify needs for advocacy and dissemination
• Prepare an advocacy impact and dissemination strategy including key messages, target audiences, communication methods, etc.
• Support the advocacy events during the month of the child
• Prepare summaries in English and/or French of important publications/studies undertaken or write human interest stories related to UNICEF programmes in Madagascar.
• In coordination with the communications section, provide elements to improve visibility of results and recommendations of studies and research for UNICEF.

V. Qualifications

To be considered for an internship with UNICEF, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme; and
• Be proficient in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin or Arabic. Additional language requirements may apply; and
• Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records
 
For this internship, specifically the intern should have:

• Master’s level degree in International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Social Science, Humanities, or related technical filed  
• Fluency and excellent writing skills in English. French is an asset. 
• Demonstrated interest in International Development, Social Policy and/or Human Rights.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
 
VI. Conditions
 
Transportation, lodging, and all expenses for the internship are the responsibility of the student.
In case of missions inside the country, UNICEF will provide a Daily Subsistence Allowance and will pay travel. A computer will be available at the UNICEF office for use of the intern.
