Location: International Office, Vienna/Austria

SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organisation for the global federation of SOS Children’s Villages. As a non-governmental social development organisation we support children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and we advocate for the rights of children and young people, in alliance with a great diversity of partners. We work in 135 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families and caregivers each year.

Mission

We are looking for a dedicated Legal Advisor who will support the Legal Advisor – Deputy General Counsel of our Integrity, Compliance & Legal unit in all aspects of legal advice. The role will be broad in nature and will include advancing the data protection activities of SOS Children’s Villages International (SOS CVI - General Secretariat), and, where applicable, on federation level, as well as providing subject matter expertise in the areas of corporate labour law, corporate law, federation law and legal affairs, general contract law and corporate governance. The Legal Advisor will partner with internal stakeholders and provide independent advice, guidance and counsel to SOS CVI (General Secretariat) and its executive leadership including input to, or design of, policies and guidelines. The objective throughout is to minimise risk and liability while optimising the relevant legal processes in support of key business objectives.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Conduct legal and analytical reviews of contracts, other documents and transactions and provide independent advice, guidance and/or counsel
  • Development of, and input on, internal processes and procedures from a legal and corporate governance perspective
  • Draft and negotiate contracts and other arrangements, both federation internal as well as with external participation
  • Handle amendments and negotiations of standard legal documentation; support in developing new templates (e.g. updating internal guidelines)
  • Identify, analyse and address data protection in both existing and new operational processes or when undertaking any other new initiatives that involve the processing of personal data
  • As needed advise SOS CVI in employment law and collective labour law matters
  • Update and distribute and/or deliver training and raise awareness about data protection issues
  • Support SOS CVI’s internal stakeholders (competence centres, functions, projects) with expert data protection advice
  • Be instrumental in heightening awareness of conducting business in accordance with legal requirements and uphold SOS´ values of courage, commitment, trust and accountability
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in law
  • Proven work experience in legal services (three years or more),  Austrian Association law and specifics regarding non-profit status highly desired
  • Specific knowledge of Austrian collective labour law, including work experience in drafting and negotiating works agreements highly desired
  • Special expertise and knowledge of Austrian data protection laws, relevant European data protection laws and regulations, as well as industry best practice
  • Analytical mind-set with an eye for practical solutions
  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to synthesise complex information into executive messages
  • Strong customer service mind-set combined with excellent interpersonal skills and intercultural understanding
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in German and English
  • Ability to work independently and to prioritise multiple demands
  • Sensitivity to confidential matters, ability to maintain and respect confidentiality
