OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

To provide leadership and vision in the WHO African Region, to facilitate planning, programming, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and support and promote research activities. The cluster will develop strategic partnerships to enhance resource mobilization and implement innovative methods to scale up relevant public health activities in countries of the African region with a view to obtain a substantial impact.The Director's Office is responsible for developing, leading, monitoring and evaluating the work of the cluster and coordinating its work with WHO/HQ, other clusters, and partner agencies.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the direct supervision of the Cluster Director, the incumbent supports the Cluster Director in ensuring efficient and effective technical and managerial coordination of the Office of the Cluster Director. Specifically the incumbent will\:1. Oversee the Cluster Director's e-mail and other correspondence information flow\: analyze information, identify priorities, initiate responses when appropriate, coordinate with internal/external parties to ensure requisite and timely follow up on actions, monitor progress, provide regular updates to Cluster Director;2. Assist the Cluster Director in liaising with technical focal points within the Cluster concerning the Cluster Director's technical agenda;3. Support the Cluster Director in the preparation and review of technical documents, papers and reports as required by the Cluster Director;4. Edit electronic and hard copy correspondence as well as managerial documentation prepared in English or French for Cluster Director's signature, ensuring compliance with rules, regulations and procedures. Initiate responses, as appropriate;5. Attend meetings with the Cluster Director; whenever necessary, prepare minutes and ensure timely and efficient follow up on implementation of ensuing actions;6. Generate and monitor the implementation of Cluster and Executive Management action points for the attention of the Director; 7. Execute any other duties as required by the Cluster Director;

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: First University Degree in public health or technical health profession.
Desirable\: Post-graduate training public health, business administration or international developmentwould be an added asset.

Experience

Essential\: At least 5 years of relevant experience in efficiently and effectively managing the Office of an inter-governmental/international organization Director. Documented experience in planning and managing the attendance and participation of the Director in High-level meetings and Governing Body events within the United Nations system; proven experience in planning and managing appropriate interactions relating to the Director's technical agenda with results-based focus; established skills in coordinating with senior government officials of Member States, including ministerial level, high-level officials of inter-governmental agencies, international organizations and other entities.
Desirable\: Additional years of proven experience in responsible roles involving the application of administrative and management principles and practices within the United Nations system..

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 59,151 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2884 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
