Action against Hunger is an international non-governmental, private, apolitical, non-religious and non-profit organization created in 1979. Its goal is to combat hunger and dangerous situations that threaten men, women and children. Currently 500 expats and more than 5,000 employees are working for Action against Hunger in more than forty-six countries working in projects concerning four areas of focus: nutrition, health, food security and water and sanitation.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

As part of the ongoing effort to scale up Action Against Hunger´s coverage in Syria, a general need to increase the Mission´s capabilities has been identified.

In particular, one of the key aspects that has to be addressed is the need for increased coordination and information exchange on Logistics between the three Bases of the Mission, which are currently located in areas that are not easily accessible to the Logistics Coordinator from his office in Damascus. This is especially affecting the Base in Hassakeh, which is growing at a fast pace, yet remains understaffed due to access constraints.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

Objective 1: Support Hassakeh Base on all aspects of Logistics: procurement (especially planning, implementing and follow-up), fleet and reporting.

Objective 2: Train Beirut´s AdminLog Assistant on more operational Logistics, and on the procedures and tasks the daily Logistics´ follow-up of a Base requires

Objective 3: Ensure Logistics´ input on proposals and final reports to donors, by acting as a liaison between the Logistics Coordinator in Damascus and the Grant Writer in Beirut´s Hub. This will include narrative- and financial inputs, as well as procurement planning

Objective 4: Travel to Damascus whenever requested by the Mission, to increase the operational capacity of the team there during peaks on the Mission´s workload on logistics

PROFILE

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Logistics, Business, Engineering or another related field. Master in Logistics, Humanitarian Studies or similar an asset.
  • Experience in Logistics in humanitarian operations, especially regarding Project Cycle Management and Supply Chain. Advanced knowledge of donor’s guidelines and procedures related to Logistics (ECHO, UNICEF,USAID, CIDA) an asset. Knowledge and experience in security management in humanitarian operations an asset.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in field logistics management in a Humanitarian Aid organization. Practical experience in logistics management within the field of supply chain management, fleet/transport management and asset management.
  • Experience in budgeting and budget management for logistics.
  • Experience producing accurate-, timely and efficient reports about all areas related to logistics.
  • Proven management- and coordination skills (including HR and stress management).
  • Experience in launching tenders an asset.
  • Experience on management of teams.
  • Knowledge of the principles-, internal dynamics- and basic mechanisms of the humanitarian sector required, preferably related to international humanitarian operations, medium-big sized missions, access constraints.
  • Knowledge about the Syrian Crisis context.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory. Working knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
  • This position entails frequent travel to Syria, with the possibility of staying there for extended periods of time according to Mission needs. Travel outside of the region for trainings and meetings are also foreseen.
  • Valuable prior experience in issues related to the promotion of gender equality or personal commitment to gender equality.

REMUNERATIVE PACKAGE

  • We offer immediate incorporation to a dynamic international network with the following remuneration package:
  • Formal work contract: 6 months.
  • Base: Beirut.
  • Mobility National / International – The position is based in Beirut frequent travel to Syria, with the possibility of staying there for extended periods of time according to Mission needs. Travel outside of the region for trainings and meetings are also foreseen with frequent visits to the Syria to follow up with Base Management and programme teams on reporting and proposal development, as well as to conduct capacity-building sessions.
  • Excellent remuneration package

  • Travel costs to and from the mission.
  • Expat Health, repatriation, travel and life insurance covered by the organization
  • Extra per month and per child (Under 18 years old): from 100€ to 225€ monthly (according to standard list of Action Againste Hunger-Spain).
  • Break: additional rest period, including travel cost to a reference area and economic help of 215€.
  • 25 working days of paid leave per year.
