Head of Project - Protection (m/f)

in Istanbul

The postition is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. Employment location will be Istanbul, Turkey.

As Head of Project protection you are responsible for an ECHO financed project. Partners are local NGOs and Community Centers, which offer services (legal, health, psychological) and implement activities for the refugee population in Istanbul, the Marmara region, Ankara and East Anatolia. Regular visits at the project sites are expected. The aims of the job are to manage, monitor and implement protection related projects on the basis of specified directives in terms of content, schedule and budget. The project is carried out in accordance with Welthungerhilfe standards and the directives/provisions of the co-financer. You will be responsible for the operative implementation of the project(s) and the appropriate use of funds, as well as for coordination, planning and implementation,  and reporting.

Your responsibilities

  • Project implementation in close collaboration with the Turkish partner organizations
  • Ensure correct and orderly financial planning and handling of the project
  • Ensure a timely financial and narrative reporting according to the donor regulations
  • Attend and advocate in UN/NGO Cluster Meetings
  • Stay in close contact with Head of Security and WHH Staff in Gaziantep regarding security developments and necessary adjustments.
  • Improve linkages with national organisations/NGOs
  • Liase with current and potential future donors present in the country
  • Assist in further programme and project development (Donor Acquisition) in consultation with the Programme Department and CD
  • Identify and examine new project ideas
  • Recruit and mentor local staff members

Your profile

  • A university/university of applied sciences degree in sociology, politics or a comparable specialised qualification suitable to the position
  • Several years of project experience in working with refugees and in crisis regions
  • Experience with projects related to refugee protection
  • A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • Excellent coordination and organisational skills, including ability to work under pressure
  • Co-operation and team skills
  • Very good oral and written command of English; command of Arabic or Turkish is an asset
