Protection Assistant (Community Based Protection)

About the job
Service Provision:
- Direct delivery of high quality Community Based Protection services, including PSS, Recreational activities, Protection Monitoring, Community Capacity Building, and awareness raising for beneficiary children, youth, women, and men, as agreed with Protection Officer (CBP).
- Carryout services in compliance with best-practice and international standards in protection response (including DRC SOPs).
- Attend weekly case review meetings with the CBP Officer to ensure adherence to standards of care and set work plans
- Identify high need cases and report them to the CBP Officer.
- Oversee Community Volunteers in the roll out of services and activities.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with DRC team members and supervisor for the identification of protection concerns and any changes to the operating context in the area.
- Follow up cases receiving DRC Legal and Case Management services, for the provision of CBP support, where needed.
Monitoring and reporting
- Produce reports as required by the CBP Officer (including weekly reports).
- Report beneficiary and activity figures to the CBP Officer on an agreed regular basis.
- Participate in weekly and monthly work planning as directed by case management officer.
- Support the implementation of monitoring and evaluation tools and report on issues in the implementation of the program.
Coordination and representation
- Maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and service providers
- Ensure up-to-date understandings of service providers operating in the area based on available service mappings and coordination with stakeholders
Others
- Maintain positive work relationship within the team, and promote team-building efforts in coordination with the CBP Officer.
- Ensure respect of DRC Code of Conduct.
- Participate in training and coaching as required on services, relevant SOPs, and the data filing and storing procedures.
- Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the CBP Officer.
About you
Required
- 1-2 years of experience in protection related work
- Experience in the delivery of community programs, and interaction with vulnerable groups, including children
- Understanding of basic psychosocial support concepts; previous training in these areas strongly preferred
- Ability to discuss sensitive issues with respect and empathy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients at all times
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility
Desirable
- Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, work independently, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
- Flexibility in working overtime when needed
- Willing to collaborate with and support people from different ethnic groups and different religions
- Demonstrated interest in humanitarian work and supporting people effected by conflict
