Background:

The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina Srebrenica Field Office (FO) seeks an Intern to assist with the daily activities of the office, which covers seven municipalities in eastern Bosnia, including Srebrenica and Bratunac. The position is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable field experience working in one of the most interesting and challenging areas of the country, which has some of the highest percentages of returnees in Bosnia. It also offers exposure to a wide range of OSCE competencies, including rule of law, democratic governance, education and human rights. The position, which reports to the Head of the Field Office, will assist with implementation of FO initiatives related to civil society development, youth, interfaith co-operation and economic development. The successful applicant will be innovative, reliable, tech savvy and a hard worker willing to learn and contribute.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The selected Intern will have the opportunity to gain an overview/familiarize themselves in the area of civil society development, youth, interfaith co-operation and economic development. Specifically, the incumbent performs the following tasks:

  1. Assisting with the development and implementation of all FO activities to ensure that they are timely, relevant, impactful and executed to the highest standards;
  2. Assisting in scheduling meetings, workshops, roundtables and similar events;
  3. Drafting briefing notes and notes for the file;
  4. Researching best practices as relevant to FO activities;
  5. Ensuring that the FO fully leverages technology to have the widest reach and most impact;
  6. Liaising with interlocutors in a professional, courteous manner;
  7. Assisting with the assessment of initiatives and development of relevant lessons learned;
  8. Supporting and contributing to the development of an innovative, energetic, highly impactful FO culture;
  9. Staying current on news, events and general developments in the FO area of responsibility;
  10. Performing others duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Be between 19 and 30 years old on the date of the deadline of this vacancy notice;
  • Have completed two years of full-time undergraduate studies, or one year of full-time graduate studies, from an accredited institution or have completed a first degree in a field relevant to the OSCE's mandate no longer than two years ago by the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice;
  • Professional fluency in English with excellent communication skills;
  • Knowledge of BCS would be an asset;
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills;
  • Excellent IT knowledge, familiarity with Microsoft Office and Internet applications, Google hangouts and other similar video conferencing platforms;
  • Previous experience and/or strong interest in areas of FO initiatives (civil society development, youth, interfaith cooperation and economic development) highly desirable;
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising, advocacy and programme development is a plus;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity.

Remuneration:

The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay in Sarajevo nor reimburse travel expenses. However, interns selected who are non-residents of Sarajevo may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs in Sarajevo. The internship lasts up to six (6) months and does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE. The selected intern interns shall provide the OSCE with evidence that he/she has health insurance coverage which is valid for Bosnia and Herzegovina, otherwise he/she shall be obliged to join the OSCE group health insurance scheme for the period of their internship, at their own expense. The OSCE will cover life and disability insurance for the duration of internship.
