CARE Canada is currently seeking a Program Officer, Food Security and Resilience to Climate Change for a one-year contract.

CARE Canada’s International Operations & Programs (IOP) unit is responsible for developing and managing the organization’s programs in both development and humanitarian assistance focusing on the injustice of poverty and gender inequality. The Unit is currently seeking a Program Officer (Food Security and Resilience to Climate Change) with prior experience integrating gender issues into the program management cycle, supporting the design of Monitoring and evaluation systems, and a good knowledge of feminist approaches in development, to provide technical guidance and administration support to a growing portfolio of programs in Food Security and Resilience to Climate Change. Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, Food Security and Resilience to Climate Change, the Program Officer will provide overall support and coordination for on-going projects, as well as provide support to the unit’s program development efforts as needed. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with team members within FNS-RCC, Women Economic Empowerment and the Humanitarian Assistance and Emergency team, as well as with CARE’s Senior Gender and Monitoring & Evaluation Advisors and other colleagues within the IOP unit and across the organization.

This position will work on a range of projects focusing on Food Security and Climate Change Resilience programming, with a current focus on programing in Honduras, Cuba & Ethiopia.

The Program Officer, Food Security and Resilience to Climate Change focuses on the management of projects and programs, project administration, and the development of projects and programs.

What you offer:

· A minimum of 2 years working with international development projects

· A minimum of 2 years experience in program cycle management, results measurement and coaching

· Experience using participatory and collaborative approaches to move teams towards results

· Experience in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning

· Experience working with Results-Based Management tools

· A knowledge of Food Security and Resilience to Climate Change programming

· A knowledge of development issues in low and middle income countries

· Working knowledge of MS Office is essential

· Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English

· Excellent written and verbal communications skills in Spanish

· Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, environment studies, agriculture, food Security, international development studies, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience as a minimum

  • A knowledge of development and humanitarian issues in complex environments
  • Familiarity with the development branch of Global Affairs Canada
  • Experience in capacity building with partners and colleagues
  • Experience working with projects focused on agricultural development, market-based approaches (value chains), rural tourism, and private sector engagement
  • A knowledge of financial management
  • Written and verbal communications skills in French
