The United Nations Department of Field Support, Information and Communications Technology Division (UN DFSICTD) is responsible for the delivery of applications that satisfy the requirements of the Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support (DPKO/DFS) missions as well as Special Political Missions (SPMs).

DFS has implemented a range of systems to address the principal requirements of peacekeeping operations and to support and enhance the processes DFS undertakes.

UNOPS has been requested to assist in the implementation of this activity.

Under the overall supervision of UNOPS DFS Global Programme Manager, the incumbent will work under Chief, Platform Support Unit or a designated officer and responsible for providing support on Umoja Access Layer.


Functional Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the IT Systems Associate will be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are not all inclusive nor are all duties carried out by all IT Systems Associate.)

Service delivery coordination:

  • Coordinate and prioritize the Access Layer team activities
  • Plan maintenance activities and ensure that they are performed accordingly
  • Perform capacity management for the access layer environment
  • Coordinate implementation/upgrade initiatives
  • Ensure that the needed reports are produced
  • Ensure that documentation is updated and accurate
  • Manage team members availability during duty hours

Access Layer Administration:

  • Install, configure and maintain XenApp supporting infrastructure
  • Install, configure and maintain the XenApp farm.
  • Install, configure and maintain Citrix licensing service.
  • Obtain and load licensing files into Citrix licensing service.
  • Install, configure and maintain Remote Desktop Licensing server.
  • Maintain and patch the virtual disks for XenApp servers
  • Initial configuration and publishing of applications.
  • Reconfiguration of existing applications.
  • Assignment of applications to user accounts.
  • Monitor the amount of storage space allocated to web and database server and ensure enough space is available to create or extend databases.
  • Configure event monitoring with Edgesight.

NetScaler Administration:

  • Install, configure and Maintain NetScalers
  • Configure Load balancing, content switching, etc.
  • Perform periodic High Availability tests
  • Initiate request for public and private IP, SSL certificates and firewall rules.
  • Configure monitoring for the Netscalers

 Operations:

  • Elaborate and review procedures for T1 and T2 operations and support.
  • Liaise with support vendors
  • Provide advice to clients regarding UNGSC standards and workflow processes
  • This position includes duty officer responsibilities according to internal schedule. 
  • Perform other duties as required

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education/Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Achievement of Engineering or Bachelor level degree is desirable.

Experience:

    Required:

    •           At least 6 years of experience in systems administration and maintenance.

    •           At least 1 year of Netscaler or Xenapp administration is required.

    •           Experience in coordinating team members to accomplish given task is required.

    •           Experience in drafting technical documents.

    •           Possession of ITIL Foundation certification.

    •           Possession of PRINCE2 Foundation certification.

    •           Ability to grasp complex concepts, logical and analytical approach to solving problems.

    Desirable:

  • Certification in Netscaler or XenApp is desirable.
  • •           Brokering and administering enterprise scale hybrid cloud (Azure and/or AWS) is an asset.

    •           VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV) certification is desirable.

    •           AWS or Azure cloud related certifications are desirable.

    •           ITIL intermediate level certification is an advantage.


Language Requirements:
  • Fluency  in  written  and oral   English   is  required. Knowledge  of  another United  Nations  official language is an advantage.
