Background Information - Job-specific

The UNOPS Hub in Amman implements projects on behalf of UN agencies and bilateral donors and in close coordination with the Government and national authorities. With an established presence across the region, the office runs operations including large-scale procurement, project development and technical management, and provides financial, human resources and infrastructure-related services. The functional objective of UNOPS Hub in Amman is to deliver its projects in an efficient and effective manner and in line with the principles, rules and regulations of UNOPS, so as to achieve the outcomes sought by the clients.

UNOPS provides operational support services to OPCW in Syria since 2014.

The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Perform interpretation services and translation services
  • Provide interpretation services to incoming missions to the project
  • Correspondence between the mission staff and local authorities
  • Ensure translation of necessary documentation from English to Arabic, or Arabic to English
  • Assist with interpretation services for visiting donors and implementers as required
  • Assist with interpretation and translations during trainings and meetings
  • Review note verbales and other official documentation between the project and the governments of Syria and Lebanon
  • Translate, as requested by OMS/OPCW critical documents and abide by the confidentiality agreement
  • Perform any other function as requested by the supervisor

Education

Bachelor’s university degree in Arabic/English Translation or related field with 2 years of experience


Experience

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience working as a translator or interpreter.
  • Experience working for the UN is an advantage
  • Prove experience in translations from English to Arabic and Arabic to English for clients, such as research institutes or international organizations
