What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

We are looking for an enthusiastic fundraising professional with a strong marketing background and high interest in humanitarian work to join our team. The Individual Giving Officer will play an active role developing high quality mailings and digital products for Switzerland to increase the number of new donors and build engagement, loyalty and value with individual supporters. These products may also be used by other components of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Supports the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies and plans of action for individual giving fundraising in Switzerland.
  • Develops and coordinates, within the ICRC and with external communication agencies, communication tools and products, e.g. key messages, print products,audiovisual materials, digital materials and telemarketing campaigns to increase number of donors and overall revenue generated.
  • Contributes to developing marketing-oriented concepts relevant to specific audiences in cooperation/consultation with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supports the development and implementation of perception/marketing research.
  • Works with internal and external suppliers/counterparts and track direct marketing and digital campaign results for the Swiss market to inform future marketing successes
  • Manage the creation and circulation of the magazine (copywriting, validation, editing, translation, layout, production, analysis).

Certifications / Education required

  • Bachelor´s degree in marketing/communication or other relevant subject.
  • Native level of French and/or German and good command of English.Italian an asset.
  • Computer proficiency.

Professional Experience required

  • Experience in a similar position (at least 5 years).
  • Minimum 1 year digital marketing experience.
  • Demonstrable track record of content writing for various channels, content development and project management in previous employment.
  • Sound knowledge of communication campaign theory, practices and tools.
  • Familiarity with research techniques.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of print, audiovisual and online production processes.

  • Excellent writer and communicator (in both the written and verbal form). Editorial mindset that seeks to understand what audiences consume and how to create it
  • Creative skills, with a good understanding of the production process
  • Experience of interacting and negotiating with suppliers/agencies and internal stakeholders

  • Enthusiasm, team spirit and open minded
  • Proven project management capabilities and organizational skills
  • Personal resilience, ability to work against tight deadlines and budgets in a fast-paced environment, keeping a keen eye on detail and accuracy
  • Ability to operate in complex international organizations
  • Passion for humanitarian work and strong commitment to the mission of the ICRC
