Organizational Setting
 
The main aim of the FAO country office, which is headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist government to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
 
The position is located in FAO office in Ankara (with three missions of 30 days in total and 10 days of deskwork) and is responsible to provide technical support in the preparation a road map and strategy for a National Action Plan for Sustainable use of Soil Resources in Turkey in the framework of project TCP/TUR/3603 “Strengthening Agricultural Infrastructure Services with the context of Global Soil Partnership”.

Reporting Lines
The incumbent reports to the FAO Sub-regional Coordinator for Central Asia and FAO Representative in Turkey, works under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, technical guidance of the Land and Water Officer (CBL), and in close collaboration with the national counterpart and the National Project Coordinator (NPC); the Consultant will be responsible for the following tasks\:
 
Tasks and responsibilities
 
  • Attend the inception workshop of the project  and contribute to the work plan of the project;
  • Review the existing policies on soil management in Turkey and prepare a roadmap for the project; 
  • Provide global experiences of soil management strategies and contribute to develop strategy for Turkey
  • Contribute in the preparation of training modules for the working group;
  • Contribute to prepare training programmes for WG01, together with the national consultants, and the soil experts,
  • Act as a resource person in the training
  • Contribute and participate in the national workshop to develop a National Strategy and Roadmap
  • Review the draft action plan and participate in the consultation workshop
  • Contribute in finalizing the draft action plan
 
Any other relevant tasks, as necessary.

 
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
 
 
Minimum Requirements
 
  • Advanced University degree in soil science or relevant fields related to the work of the Organization;
  • At least 10 years of experience in Soil Management and relevant policy development, with well-informed Global Soil Partnership and its policy agenda;
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, or Chinese).
