Job Description

Welcome to the Fellowship Programme

Within the Programme, we are looking for a Trusts & Foundations Officer to join the Partnerships & Fundraising Section, a small multi-tasking team, and to contribute to the development of its work.  The Partnerships & Fundraising Section coordinates and conducts fundraising at or on behalf of CERN and the CERN & Society Foundation, as well as the dissemination of, and compliance with, CERN’s fundraising standards, including the Ethical Policy and the Policy for the Recognition of Donors.  The CERN & Society Foundation, established in June 2014, is the charity through which charitable gifts for CERN & Society projects are raised from companies, trusts/foundations and individuals.

The tasks of the successful candidate will be:

To drive Trusts & Foundations fundraising, developing new business and loyalty strategies to deliver, from the private sector, long-term and significantly increased resources, profile and influence to support the CERN & Society mission.

As the person in charge of Trusts & Foundations fundraising, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Proposing and implementing CERN & Society fundraising strategy, focusing on partnerships with trusts & foundations;
• Prospect identification, research, and segmentation;
• Cultivation and relationship-building with boards and key executives;
• Developing and submitting compelling grant applications;
• Accepting and recognizing support;
• Monitoring and reporting;
• Overall account management and stewardship of existing supporters, including events planning, for high-level donor experience.

The successful candidate will also take part in other activities in collaboration with CERN & Society project leaders, such as:

• Projects identification;
• Planning and budgeting;
• Development of  fundraising case for support;
• Development of project proposal/presentations for CERN boards;
• Communication;
• Monitoring and evaluation.

And work with other Partnerships & Fundraising team members on:

• Strategic planning, annual budget planning, overall financial data analysis and reporting;
• Preparation of the fundraising annual report and ongoing status reports;
• Communication about fundraising activities including via the CERN & Society website;
• Proposal development for various matters pertaining to fundraising.

Qualifications

For this position within the Programme, you will need to meet the following requirements:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State (https://home.cern/about/member-states). A limited number of positions are also available to candidates from Non-Member States with a Senior Fellow profile.
• You have a university degree together with professional training in the field of fundraising (or equivalent) and a maximum limit of 10 years’ experience after completion of your MSc.
• You have between 3 and 10 years of experience in fundraising, with a successful track record of pitching, winning and managing 100K+ Euro grants and gifts from trusts and foundations possibly at international level.
• Excellent spoken and written English is essential. Fluent French would be an asset.
• Knowledge of CiviCRM or other CRM software packages would be an asset.
• Please note that CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship.

Additional Information

CERN would very much like to benefit from your expertise, commitment and passion.  In return, CERN will provide you with:

• An employment contract for between six months (minimum) up to a maximum of 36 months.
• A stipend ranging from 5,185 to 7,994 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
• Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
• Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
• 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
