ABOUT US

In 2014, Danish Refugee Council/Danish Demining Group (DRC/DDG) returned to Ukraine in order to assist those persons who are internally displaced (IDPs) or affected by the conflict in Donbas and implements activities in eastern Ukraine with a head office in Kyiv. DDG is the specialist unit within DRC that is dedicated to humanitarian mine action. DDG established mine action programmes in Ukraine in 2014 and has since been expanding the scale and scope of its intervention to include mine risk education, non-technical survey, manual demining and training/support for national actors. In terms of national actors, DDG has been working to support the State Emergency Services (SES) of Ukraine, in order to tackle the issue of explosive hazard contamination, via the provision of equipment and training

ABOUT THE JOB

DDG is now looking to further its engagement with SES via a new project that specifically aims to support the SES’s engagement in comprehensive humanitarian demining and mine risk education. DDG is looking to recruit a Mine Risk Education Trainer to implement MRE activities in Eastern Ukraine on the government controlled territories. The Risk Education Specialist reports directly to the Mine Risk Education Officer.

 

Main responsibilities

  • Function as a rapid response MRE trainer ensuring the dissemination of risk education messages among affected population in proximity to the contact line
  • Act as a “Trainer of Trainers” for peer educators and teachers
  • Participate in planning of MRE activities
  • Participate in the development and implementation of MRE educational training material
  • Participate in identification process of the programme beneficiaries
  • Support in information dissemination and outreach activities to ensure active participation of the beneficiaries in the programme
  • Undertake regular monitoring of activities, reports on number of beneficiaries reached, and provides updated data disaggregated by gender and age
  • Ensure effective communication and cooperation with all local project partners
  • Liaises with stakeholders and partners to fulfill project objectives
  • Maintain good working relations within DRC-DDG and other organizations in the area of responsibility
  • Understand, and ensure compliance of the DDG Global SOP 9 on Risk Education
  • Understand, and ensure the observance of the DRC-DDG Code of Conduct
  • Carry out activities in an inclusive, and gender and diversity-sensitive manner
  • Perform other ad-hoc tasks as requested

 

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role we expect you to have strong communication skills and public speaking ability and experience in working with big audinece, delivering trainings and facilitating discussions, to be ready for business-trips, to work in the field conditions, to be motivated and interested in sharing the knowledge, maintaine basic knowledge of common types of landmines and ordnance.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required experience and technical competencies

  • University degree in education and pedagogy or relevant subject area or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in mine risk education or humanitarian demining is a strong plus
  • Previous experience working with children and adult audiences in teaching or public speaking capacity

  • Strong communication skills and public speaking capacity
  • Ability to work with the administrative documents
  • Ukrainian (fluent)
  • Russian (fluent)
  • English (Working level of spoken and written English)
  • Diplomatic, patient and persistent.
