Duties & Responsibilities

As a member of Harvard Kennedy School's (HKS) Office of Career Advancement (OCA) team, the Associate Director/Career Coach plays an important role in helping HKS students -- a diverse community ages 23 to 60 drawn from more than 80 countries --leverage the HKS experience in support of their professional development. The Associate Director is responsible for:

·         Individual and group career coaching and group programming to master's degree students and alumni. This includes supporting students as they take charge of their career decisions and job search and coaching students in developing career vision and plans, identifying professional opportunities, and connecting with potential employers

·         Career education, which includes creating and delivering a comprehensive series of customized career-related programs, workshops, and networking events. Events and activities are delivered by OCA and in partnership with students, faculty, other administrators, and alumni

·         Monitoring the professional markets most relevant to HKS students and graduates, developing relationships with potential employers, including alumni who seek to hire HKS talent

·         Working collaboratively with Degree Programs and Student Affairs Office of Communications and Marketing on online and print publications

·         Working collaboratively with teammates within OCA, across HKS student affairs, and across the School, including building productive partnerships with HKS research centers

·         Serving as a key part of the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced, service-oriented team

Basic Qualifications

Graduate degree required with five or more years of demonstrated experience in coaching, counseling, program development and facilitation or Bachelor's degree and seven or more years of demonstrated experience in coaching, counseling, program development and facilitation.

Additional Qualifications

Knowledge of diverse public policy related career paths across sectors highly desirable. Proven aptitude and enthusiasm for acquiring knowledge on diverse career topics. Understanding of careers in the international development industry strongly preferred, as is experience with individuals/students who have lived outside the U.S. Knowledge of career assessment tools and experience in applying them preferred. Experience in use of social media tools such as LinkedIn in coaching. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, oral presentation, writing and editing skills; the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Must possess outstanding … client service skills and have a demonstrated commitment to strengthening the diversity of the student body and capacity to engage with a diverse school community. An excellent sense of humor is preferred along with an enthusiastic approach to professional challenge and opportunity. Must demonstrate the ability to coach and counsel others, including extraordinary listening ability, abundant curiosity, and the ability to ask questions and offer feedback in ways that help people see possibilities for themselves. Must be a self-starter, team player, and lifelong learner.
