What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Head of the Weapon Contamination Unit (WeC)


In the framework of improving the WeC Unit transversal scope of action within the overall ICRC response, the unit is planning for the implementation of an internal collecting and data analysis methodology aiming at improving the understanding of its activities.

The role of the Associate will be focus in data analysis responsibility including to monitor impact and quality control plans to identify improvements.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing data analysis, data collection system and other strategies that optimize statistical quality
  • Interpreting data, analyzing result using statistical techniques
  • Provide support in the functioning and update of the WeC Framework tool
  • Promote the use of the developed tools and train the potential users
  • To manage and promoting¬† WeC monthly newsletter

Certifications / Education required

  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database and experience in using statistical package
  • University degree in information/data management, social sciences, international relations or equivalent
  • Additional international relations/development, political/social sciences or equivalent is an asset
  • Sound understanding of ICRC principles, and confidentiality policy
  • Knowledge of the problematic of weapon contamination (weapons, CBRN hazards etc.) and its consequences, an asset

Professional Experience required

  • Experience to analyze and to support the development of new databases/tools and to evaluate their results
  • No more than one year of professional experience (or two if internships are included) after the last graduation
