Organizational Setting
The Liaison Office in Japan is based in Yokohama, Japan. It undertakes a series of activities aimed at facilitating information exchange, fostering mutual understanding and promoting collaboration between FAO and the people of Japan on issues pertaining to food security and nutrition around the world. As such, it would be crucial to maintain and improve communication networks among FAO units/decentralized offices and relevant organizations and counterparts in Japan, in order to contribute to achieving hunger eradication and world food security and nutrition for all.
 
The selected applicant will undertake communication and related activities to enhance the visibility of FAO in Japan, including organization of events aimed at raising awareness on FAO’s work, in collaboration with FAO’s Office for Corporate Communication and LOJ staff as well as in cooperation with various stakeholders including Government institutions, media, FAO National Goodwill Ambassadors for Japan, NGOs, private companies, academia and research institutions.
 
 
Reporting Lines
Under the supervision of the Director, the incumbent will coordinate communication and arrange various events with FAO offices and relevant counterparts/stakeholders in Japan.
 
 
Technical Focus
Communication among FAO offices, a variety of stakeholders, media, and the Japanese public at large.
 
 
Tasks and responsibilities
 
  • Prepare and present information materials and documents on the state of world food and agriculture, both in Japanese and English;
  • Manage and coordinate the dissemination of FAO messages and activities through mass media, websites, email news, and SNS to maximize their visibility in Japan, including organization of launch event for flagship publications;
  • Manage and update the LOJ communication tools such as the website and twitter account on a regular basis;
  • Formulate, plan and implement various seminars/activities/events in cooperation with the other LOJ staff and stakeholders, and produce related analytical reports;
  • Coordinate various activities for FAO National Goodwill Ambassadors and disseminate their reports, including organization of at least one event with each FAO National Goodwill Ambassador by the end of the year, in cooperation with the other LOJ staff and stakeholders;
  • Coordinate the preparation of the quarterly internal newsletter “Konnichiwa”, including presentation and graphics;
  • Coordinate, on a regular basis, with the FAO Office for Corporate Communication as well as the Regional Communication Officer to keep abreast of FAO’s corporate communication needs and developments; 
  • Prepare and/or answer queries from media or the public; and,
  • Perform any other relevant duties upon request.

Minimum Requirements
  • University degree in communication or in a field related to the work of FAO;
  • One year of relevant experience;
  • Working knowledge of Japanese and English
