Description:

Child protection is part of DRC Yemen’s programme sector portfolio. Through its child protection programming, DRC promotes the protection and welfare issues of children affected by the armed conflict – including those of gender-based violence at domestic and community levels. DRC provides psychosocial support, referral, and response services including follow up. This is done directly or through partner organizations and government services.

Purpose:

Responsible for providing a wide variety of community-based awareness sessions, group discussions, home visits and case management for children.  Ensure proper response and referrals for children affected by the conflict, children at risk of exploitation, children impacted by gender-based violence, or children with other vulnerabilities through holistic psycho-social support and following-up with relevant partners.  The CP/ social workers will support the identification, rehabilitation and follow-up on former children associated with armed Actors (CAAFA), adolescents at risk and injured children in need of medical, psycho-social and legal support.

The position requires is filed oriented with frequent travel to project areas.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To supervise and monitor the CP committees, local NGOs partners and community volunteers who will be working on CP and GBV issues at the community level and identify, follow up vulnerable children/ Youth at risk and affected by the conflict and referring them for social economic integration.
  2. Undertake regular field visits to conduct (child) protection and GBV monitoring among conflict-affected populations and IDPs.
  3. Ensure the priority of the rights and protection of the children of concern.
  4. Ensure a timely and quality response to cases of children, adolescents at Risk in the full respect of the principle of confidentiality
  5. Organizing daily home visits /site visits and follow up of individual cases under support.
  6. Contributes to child protection monitoring activities.
  7. Positively engages the community raising awareness to promote community social economic integration of the youth at risk
  8. Participates in needs assessments and selection of vulnerable persons of concern for additional humanitarian assistance, income-generating activities and reintegration projects
  9. Contributes to reports on the humanitarian situation of children affected by armed conflict specifically CFAAG, and GBV related issues
  10. Any other duties as required by the supervisor
  11. Identifying and reporting the risk of children are eventually exposed to and support protection officer in developing the adequate prevention measures
  12. Work at all times in a responsible and mature manner that promotes a positive relationship the concerned children, DRC and all relevant partners
  13. Work in a participative way engaging and empowering beneficiaries and stakeholders, always putting the concerned children at the center of the response
  14. Ensure easy flexibility with working hours.
  15. Organize meetings with children caregivers and the fosters families for children needs and eventual suggestions and report to the protection officer > parents and caregiver’s committees
  16. Any other task, not here listed but related to DRC Protection intervention
  17. For all staff: Will adhere to all Local Safety Rules, approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Code of Conduct to ensure the safe and secure implementation of activities for staff, stakeholders, and partners.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • High school certificate or degree or college Diploma in Community Development, Social work, social sciences or related fields
  • At least 1 years of professional experience working as social counselor.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents or Youth at risk
  • Demonstrated familiarity with case management principles, CAAFA, economic empowerment.
  • Demonstrable experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with different sectorial counterparts/referral pathways.
  • Good interpersonal skills and strong communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills (proven computer literacy)
  • Readiness to commit and adhere to the values, mission and vision of DRC
  • Intermediate English desired and preferred but not mandatory.
