Description:

Child protection is part of DRC Yemen’s programme sector portfolio. Through its child protection programming, DRC promotes the protection and welfare issues of children affected by the armed conflict – including those of gender-based violence at domestic and community levels. DRC provides psychosocial support, referral, and response services including follow up. This is done directly or through partner organizations and government services.

Purpose:

Responsible for providing a wide variety of community-based awareness sessions, group discussions, home visits and case management for children and adolescents at risk.  Ensure proper response and referrals for children affected by the conflict, children at risk of exploitation, children impacted by gender-based violence, or children with other vulnerabilities through holistic psycho-social support and following-up with relevant partners.  The CP/ social workers will support the identification, rehabilitation and follow-up on former children associated with armed Actors (CAAFA), adolescents at risk and injured children in need of medical, psycho-social and legal support.

Objective:

  • Timely and effective implementation of vocational training activities with training suppliers
  • Establish and maintain transparent, functional relationships with target communities
  • Ensure daily vocational training activities follow proper implementation
  • Liaise on a daily basis with the training mentors if needed
  • Assist the Coordinator in liaising with other Organizations on the ground and strengthening referrals

Overall Objective:

  1. Facilitate relations between DRC and the local communities, mentors in the realization of projects objectives.
  2. Beneficiaries identification and selection
  3. Monitoring and supporting project implementation at field level
  4. Comply with the DRC financial and administrative procedures and financial requirements.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead and in carrying out a local-social economic assessment in Lahj, identifying opportunities skill development and for income generation for the youth.
  • Research opportunities to support trainees to follow self-employment activities that are flexible and meet individual and geographical needs by supporting them in developing business plan.
  • Support in gathering information on the local context, target communities and employers to assist DRC, in selecting market-oriented vocational training courses that match the needs of employers and services needed in Lahj governorate.
  • Developing social protection, community and family reunification strategies and linkages for the children or youth released from armed groups.
  • Developing social and economic integration strategies for the youth at risk and CAAFA
  • Apply technical knowledge and skills to organize and deliver vocational training activities, in full compliance with DRC standard operating procedures.
  • Assist the DRC in setting up community centre community Centres in preparing vocational training activity plans, in consultation with the training providers when needed
  • Organize, FGDs and information sessions with vocational training beneficiaries when required
  • Supervise the implementation of the vocational training courses with external providers (mentors)
  • Support the trainees in developing curricula for business plan for development to support DRC and mentors in supporting trainees to develop their business plan.
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders implementing vocational training course to establish synergies and avoid duplications in the different Governorates
  • Collect case studies and success stories

The position requires is filed oriented with frequent travel to project areas.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Educated to university undergraduate degree level, in Social Science, Economics, livelihoods or related field
  • At least 1 years of professional experience working as in Protection and or livelihoods.
  • Experience in community mobilization and participatory decision making highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with economic empowerment programmes or vocational training.
  • Deep understanding on child protection, protection principles, humanitarian principles, and CAAFA
  • Strong ability to work independently, organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility
  • Strong presentation skills, and capacity to deliver appropriate and relevant trainings to a target audience
  • An understanding of basic logistics
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a responsible manner
  • Ability to provide Arabic-English translation and interpretation services as requested
  • Excellent computer skills (proven computer literacy)
  • Readiness to commit and adhere to the values, mission and vision of DRC

The proposed employment conditions are based on DRC policy and Yemeni labor law. The selected candidate shall perform his/her duties in compliance with the DRC Code of Conduct and procedures at all times. This position requires over 75% field presence.
