Organizational Setting

FAO Country Office in Uzbekistan is responsible for partnership with and support to the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, bringing together technical assistance innovative, international best practices and global normative work standards with national and regional expertise.

Reporting Lines

FAO Sub-regional Coordinator for Central Asia and FAO Representative in Turkey, technical guidance of the Lead Technical Officer, and in close cooperation with the National Project Coordinator, Assistant FAO Representative in Uzbekistan

Technical Focus

Conservation and sustainable use of deserts or related fields.

Tasks and responsibilities

Identify best-practices and approaches for climate-adapted & biodiversity-friendly integrated natural resource management (INRM) for temperate deserts in Uzbekistan. This will include water resource management.
Develop mechanisms for upscaling of best-practices and approaches for climate-adapted & biodiversity-friendly INRM including water resource management for temperate deserts through FFSs
Adapt the concept for Farmer Field Schools (FFS) for Uzbekistan including training modalities and cover of information gaps
Propose approaches to share foreign expertise obtained through FFSs with Uzbek stakeholders
Draft TORs for the supplier who will under respective Service Contract/Letter of Agreement (LoA) execute the concept of FFS in Uzbekistan. The concept execution will include establishment and implementation of the FFSs, and development of training manual and training materials

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

Advanced University degree in conservation biology, natural resource management, forestry, or related field;
At least 10 years of demonstrated experience in in conservation and sustainable use of deserts;
Working level of English is required
