Location                               : Aden (with frequent filed travels)

Description:

Child protection is part of DRC Yemen’s programme sector portfolio. Through its child protection programming, DRC promotes the protection and welfare issues of children affected by the armed conflict including Gender based violence by offering victim assistance, Psychosocial support, case management and referrals and follow up. This is done through community-based approaches.

The Medical Consultant will be responsible for Medical follow up and management of the children getting treatment in the hospital. He/ She will be part of the Case management team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow-up with all children who are receiving, or have received, medical treatment through DRC, including conducting regular visits to the hospital, based on the child’s need or at the direction of the Child Protection Coordinator.
  • Under the guidance of the Child Protection Coordinator, review all files and consult with the designated children’s treatment providers (or potential treatment providers) to determine the appropriate course of action.
  • Identifying the children whose condition requires to be prioritized for treatment.
  • Creating monthly medical treatment summaries for each child during his/her treatment and at the conclusion of the medical treatment when the case is closed.
  • Review all claims/expenses from the hospitals and with the support of the Child Protection Coordinator, determine which charges are appropriate and should be paid.
  • Complete a monthly medical treatment summary for each child who is receiving medical treatment and submit the reports to the Child Protection Coordinator
  • Complete a final medical treatment report for each child whose treatment has concluded and whose case is being closed and submit the reports to the Child Protection Coordinator.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality about the children and/or their families and the treatment being provided and, at all times, take active steps to protect the children and their families’ privacy and dignity.
  • Given the nature of DRC programs and emergency activities; Flexibility is required
  • Complying with DRC’s policies and procedures including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct.
  • Any other duties as required or assigned by the Child Protection Coordinator.
  • Strengthening the referral pathway within the health workers.
  • Strengthening the relationship between DRC child protection health care actors

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Medicine
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in relevant field.
  • Ability to work in a structured manner and independently with limited oversight.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, including a supportive working style.
  • Native Arabic with good professional English, both written and spoken.
  • Essential computer literacy (word and Excel)

  • Previous exposure to international humanitarian standards including the Red Cross Red Crescent Code of Conduct for NGOS and Beneficiary Accountability Frameworks is an advantage.
