Description:

Child protection is part of DRC Yemen’s programme sector portfolio. Through its child protection programming, DRC promotes the protection and welfare issues of children affected by the armed conflict including Gender based violence by offering victim assistance, Psychosocial support, case management and referrals and follow up. This is done through community-based approaches.

The Child Coordinator is responsible for leading the program Officers and Assistants in carrying out field-based activities, building capacity of local partners, supporting community Based protection committees, participating in community events. The Coordinator also supports the Manager in recruitments, project kick-off and review processes, developing training modules and conducting trainings / awareness sessions to partners and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of the program manager, work with the program officers and assistants to train, support and monitor local partner CSOs, community volunteers, community-based committees and/or other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support and supervise program officers ensuring quality implementation of all components of the program, including setting standards of operation and M&E, developing weekly work plans for all activities, ensuring protection mainstreaming and compliance with humanitarian standards.
  • Ensure proper case management, documentation and referrals in respect to the professional standards.
  • Undertake regular field visits to all program sites to support and assess program implementation, identify any concerns and obtain beneficiary feedback.
  • Support the Officers in establishing/ strengthening community protection committees.
  • Ensure quality, timely delivery of assistance to the target beneficiaries.
  • Supervise the protection officers, assistant in their daily work, ensuring proper implementation of activities in line with the work plan and financial plan.
  • Work with the M&E team to monitor and evaluate the program.
  • Work with DRC colleagues in other sectors, offices or programs to identify and capitalize on opportunities to integrate or improve integration of activities or response.
  • Obtain and review photos and human-interest stories to document the impact of DRC’s programs.
  • Ensure that any beneficiary participation, feedback, concerns or issues are addressed through the appropriate mechanism.
  • Maintain accurate records regarding program implementation and provide weekly updates to the manager.
  • Contribute to and prepare draft reports and comply with set deadlines.
  • Represent DRC at cluster or other meetings as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Comply with DRC’s Code of Conduct, program requirements and operational policies at all times and report any concerns through the appropriate mechanism.
  • Any other duties as required by the supervisor.

     

    Additional Tasks:

  • Work closely with community leaders, UNICEF field staff, local authorities and MoSAL
  • Supervise and/or provide training and support on MRM.
  • Experience in community-based approaches and case management.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in PIM.
  • Ensure follow-up on all referrals and provide necessary case management.
  • Develop weekly and monthly work plans for CP staff on all projects.
  • Identify potential partnerships.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree in social work, social sciences, development studies, or related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working with a INGOs or UN agency in Protection.
  • Ability to work in a structured manner and independently with limited oversight.
  • Project management experience and strong project management skills
  • Experience providing training and support to project staff and partners.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, including a supportive working style.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing teams.
  • Fluent (native) Arabic with good professional English, both written and spoken, additional language are an add value.
  • Ability to travel and visit activity implementation sites.
  • Solid experience in monitoring and evaluation.
  • Solid understanding of and commitment to humanitarian principles
  • Comfortable with speaking in public and representing the organization in informal and formal settings

Additional QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with vulnerable and/or conflict affected children and their families
  • Case management experience
  • Knowledge of the relevant child protection actors.
  • Any other duties as required by supervisor.

  • Previous exposure to international humanitarian standards including the Red Cross Red Crescent Code of Conduct for NGOS and Beneficiary Accountability Frameworks is an advantage.
