  1. Role and responsibilities

     

    The Project Coordinator is responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of the Education program in North Lebanon through organizing and delivering Education activities in line with NRC’s strategy and standards. The role also will include the management and capacity building of NRC staff.

    Generic responsibilities

    1. Coordinate and implement the Education projects according to strategy, proposals and plans
    2. Manage performance and staff development of staff reporting to Project Coordinator
    3. Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities based on needs and gaps from relevant area, including on protection risks and needs.
    4. Contribute to coordination with relevant local authorities and stakeholders
    5. Plan staff capacity needs, to deliver capacity building to project staff and transferring key skills through on the job training and mentoring
    6. Provide regular reports to the Project Manager on project implementation
    7. Ensure proper filing of all project documents – confirm accuracy in project documents, contracts and reports
    8. Contribute to development, management and monitoring of project budget in cooperation with Project Manager
    9. Ensure adherence to NRC policies and donor requirements
    10. Ensure that NRC’s related activities are implemented within NRC’s Protection mainstreaming guidelines and report any breaches/concerns to the line manager and/or focal point for proper action
    11. Ensure that all protection related detected cases are referred to the concerned referral focal point and to the related Protection Coordinator.

       

      Specific responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision of Education Officers
  • Manage the performance of staff under his/her supervision, including working with the team members to set and monitor objectives and work plans, and provide constructive feedback on a regular basis.
  • Plan the weekly and monthly activities with the team ensuring they are in accordance with overall project objectives
  • Ensure that the education activities as defined in detailed work plan under the team’s responsibilities are taking place on the due time and according to NRC standards and guidance
  • Liaise closely with the technical officer to ensure adherence to NRC procedures when recruiting teachers
  • Provide project and area specific information to PM for proposal development
  • Conduct frequent field visits to learning centres, educational sites, ensuring services are delivered as per NRC standards and to collect feedbacks from beneficiaries, teachers, etc.
  • Lead necessary assessments to identify gaps, areas of interventions and beneficiaries with the support of Education PM
  • Ensure the monitoring and evaluation plan is undertaken in a timely and effective manner in coordination with the education PM and M&E unit
  • Manage the direct costs of budget, including the preparation, monitoring and updating of financial work plans, ensuring resources are managed effectively
  • Ensure the education database is updated with all beneficiaries’ information and validate consistency of data sets between the education database and NRC reporting system (DHIS)
  • Participate in the recruitment of area project staff
  • Prepare timely internal monthly reports
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and stakeholders, including UNRWA, regional MEHE representatives and other organizations active in the sector.
  • Manage the achievement of beneficiaries’ satisfaction through the effective delivery of projects

     

    Critical interfaces

    By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:

  • Project planning: Education PM and Specialist
  • Area operations: Support Coordinator, Logistics, HR, Finance
  • Staff capacity building: Education PM, HR Development Officer
  • Implementation: Education PM, NRC ICLA, Shelter, Wash and CMC Coordinators

  • Bachelor Degree in Education or any relevant field
  • Experience from working as Education Project Coordinator in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Experience in implementing Education programmes
  • Experience in coordinating with Government Bodies and Representatives
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of the Education context (gaps and needs) in North Lebanon
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and adaptation
  • Experience managing Learning Centers and Outreach programmes in Informal Settlements
  • Experience establishing parents’ committees and working with a community based approach
