Organizational Setting
 
The main aim of the FAO office in Georgia is to assist the government to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
 
 
Reporting Lines
 
The copy-editor shall operate under the overall guidance and responsibility of the FAO Representative in Georgia; direct supervision of the Operations Officer, and in close collaboration with project CTAs, communications officer and other staff of the FAO in Georgia.
 
 
Technical Focus
 
The copy-editor improves style, flow and readability of texts without affecting the content, and clears up any unclear or ambiguous language in consultation with the author and/or technical editor. The copy-editor checks the manuscript for consistency and house style. Copy-editing does not involve reorganization of the content or extensive rewriting.
 
 
Tasks and responsibilities
 
  • Checki internal consistency of the text, data, figures (including maps), tables and boxes;
  • Check cross-references and consistency of references in the text with the bibliographic reference list;
  • Improve the flow, clarity and quality of the language;
  • Correct grammatical errors, spelling mistakes and typos;
  • Ensure that FAOSTYLE has been applied and complied with;
  • Ensure that country names are correct (as per FAONOCS) and in the correct order (alphabetical if no specified order or ranking);
  • Apply consistent styles to all headings types;
  • Flag any problems that require decisions relating to the substance of the work.
 
 
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
 
 
Minimum Requirements
  • University degree in philology or in the related area;
  • 2 years of relevant experience;
  • English mother-tongue or demonstrated fluency.
  • Familiarity with Word processing.
  • Being a National or a resident of Georgia will be an asset.
