10 Research Assistants (national Position)

 
Malteser International is the worldwide relief agency of the Sovereign Order of Malta for humanitarian aid. The organization has more than 50 years of experience in humanitarian relief and covers about 200 projects in about 30 countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas. Our mission is to alleviate human suffering and provide emergency relief as well as to implement development measures and facilitate the link between emergency relief and sustainable development. Christian values and the humanitarian principles of impartiality and independence form the basis of our work in the following areas: Health & Nutrition; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH); Livelihood & Social Programs, Relief, Reconstruction & Rehabilitation and Disaster Risk Reduction.
 
To support our program in Nairobi County, Kenya, Malteser International is looking for a motivated 10 Research Assistants (national Position).

The Research Assistant is expected to carry out capacity assessment of select Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s) within Nairobi County. The Research Assistant will conduct the work under guidance of Malteser International, Global Fund TB, Project Officers and ensure that s/he hands over good quality reports that represent what was obtained in the field

Responsibilities:

  • Attend 3-day orientation workshop on CSO assessment
  • Conduct 7-day field work assessment exercise of identified CSOs ensuring each questionnaire is properly and completely entered into system
  • Compile and analyze data ensuring confidentiality of information provided
  • Make a detailed note of how many questionnaires were completed and entered into the system
  • Write a final report and submit to Global Fund TB Project Officer

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Diploma course in social science or health-related field
  • Previous research experience is an asset
  • Have strong interpersonal, communication and interviewing skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer technology including Microsoft office
  • Experience in electronic data collection (MUST have a smart phone) is an asset A good understanding of ethical issues in research
  • Good report writing skills
  • Well versed with Nairobi and its environs

  • Strong initiative and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to teamwork
  • Flexible, enthusiastic and willing to learn from others
  • Possesses initiative and is able to work with minimum supervision
  • Good organizational skills with ability to cope under tight deadlines  

Conditions:

  • Starting date: 1st August 2018
  • Intended duty station: Nairobi County, Kenya
  • Duration of assignment 14 days
  • Remuneration according to qualification and experience, insurance package
  • Kindly note that this a national position with a local consultancy contract
