This post is located within the Office of the Executive Director which provides strategic leadership for the development and management of the organization. It coordinates the corporate work programme through preparation and monitoring of ITC’s Business Plan and the key functions of evaluation, resource mobilization and corporate communications. It chairs key committees to lay corporate development, strategic orientation and policy direction and represents the Centre at the executive level vis-à-vis governments, United Nations bodies, WTO and other organizations. The Office of the Executive Director also assumes technical and managerial responsibility for the implementation of the Executive Forum.

The Communications and Events Section is responsible for ITC’s website, media relations, speech and op-ed writing, annual reports, social media, audiovisual communication, advocacy campaigns and events, internal communication, technical publications production, graphic design, printing and the library.

R ESPONSIBILITIES ANEXPECTED RESULTS

  • Conceptualize, design and execute the overall communication and events strategy, programme and activities for ITC including implementation of corporate events.
  • Serve as the Chief of ITC’s Communication and Events section, provide technical and policy advice on highly complex information and communications issues, develop and disseminate best practices.   • Lead and direct a team of communication staff; plan and allocate work assignments; coach, mentor, and evaluate staff; participate in recruitment and selection of new staff and in the development of training programmes.
  • Oversee the preparation and production of ITC related communication material, printed as well as e-based. Conduct political liaison work, create and maintain networks of high-level communications contacts with broadcast media, the press, governmental agencies, international institutions and other groups and organizations in civil society (non-governmental organizations, businesses, community organizations, women’s groups), represent the organization in important meetings, conferences, events, and promote joint public relations ventures.
  • Contribute to development of institutional public relations policies and internal communication.
  • Assess the overall effectiveness of ITC’s communication and events strategy and programmes and make changes in approach and techniques where required.
  • Provide diverse materials (briefings, speeches, questions and answers) for use by senior officials, develop or oversee development of high profile multi-media communications campaigns and set quality and production standards for information dissemination.
  • Lead the maintenance of ITC’s web and social media presence and ITC’s Content Relationship Management (CRM) process
  • Ensure that the results or ITC’s projects in countries are reflected and retailed through corporate communications
  • Perform other duties as required.

E LIGIBILITCRITERIA

E DUCATION: Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field.

Note: A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

W ORK EXPERIENCE : A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area. Experience working on communications on projects in developing countries desirable.

L ANGUAGES : Advanced English. A working knowledge of French or Spanish desirable. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an asset

T ERMS OF SERVICE

Appointments with ITC are service-limited to this organization. The conditions of service are governed by the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations. This is a fixed term appointment. INDICATIVE ANNUAL SALARY AT THE P-5 LEVEL

Annual Salary (net of tax)

Starting from 85,543US$, with annual increments subject to performance.

Post Adjustment

In addition to the above annual salary a monthly post adjustment is paid. The rate as at July 2018 is 70.9% of the monthly salary. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
