The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Secretariat General (SG) - Communication Department (COM) – Publishing Division (PUB) - Editorial Unit, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a:

(Senior) Writer / Editor (Internal Communications)

This is a full time position at grade 5/6

The term of this contract will be 4 years 

The EIB offers fixed-term contracts of up to a maximum of 6 years, according to business needs,

with a possibility to convert to a permanent contract, subject to organisational requirements and individual performance.

Panel interviews are anticipated for mid - September 2018.

Purpose

The Communication Department ensures the activities of the Bank are known and valued by its partners and the general public. It interacts with external and internal audiences and ensures the EIB Group engages with them in an open and accountable way.

The Publishing Division is the content powerhouse of the Department. Its mission is to develop informative, engaging, and attractive content to support the Bank’s interaction with the public at large across all communication channels, and to communicate internally to Bank staff. The division is also responsible for running the EIB’s website.

As (Senior) Writer / Editor (internally referred to as (Senior) Communication Officer) you will work on a range of content, but you will primarily focus on internal stories about EIB corporate and operational strategies and all aspects of our community life. Through your writing you will help build trust between our managers and staff and ensure that people who work at the Bank become empowered EIB citizens: engage with and contribute to the EIB’s wider role and strategy, and become passionate ambassadors for the EIB’s mission and goals.

This is an exciting role that will require a combination of writing, editorial and project management experience in an institutional setting, as well as focus, people skills, discernment, and ability to juggle multiple projects.

Operating Network

You will directly report to the Head of the Editorial Unit. You will cooperate closely with the Head of Publishing Division, other Heads of Division as well as Heads of Unit in the Communications Department and across the EIB.

Accountabilities

  • Under the overall mentorship of the Head of the Editorial Unit and in cooperation with other EIB Group departments, ensures quality, timeliness and relevance of content published on the Intranet and through other internal channels.
  • Authors and edits Intranet news and other communication materials.
  • Publishes third-party articles on the Intranet per institutional guidelines
  • Builds and maintains tools to foster internal communication and involve, nurture relations with and engage staff.
  • Is the liaison with the IT department on matters related to Intranet architecture and technology developments
  • Contributes to special projects/working groups, as appropriate.
  • As part of the Communication Department, contributes to the development and implementation of the EIB Group’s overall communication strategy.

Qualifications

  • University degree preferably in a field related to communication, economics, international relations or similar field
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in a communications role within an international organization or a corporation.
  • Good knowledge of communication principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of the EU institutional and political framework and general understanding of the Bank’s objectives, policies, procedures and organization
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and influence contacts at all levels
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience working with content management systems
  • Ability to plan, develop and coordinate multiple projects and events
  • Ability to use independent discernment and handle confidential information
  • Deep understanding of web architecture and the latest web technologies
  • Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Indesign desirable
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (*), with a good command of the other
  • Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
